I have been a lurker to this site for years now, I have attempted to grow my hair long twice and have cut it, which has only led to regret. Well, I am at it again the third time, I feel that this time is different than the others, I am not setting a goal length this time because I feel that my impatience at reaching the length was a hampering the other two times. This time I am going to just leave my hair and embrace the moment. Will be posting updates every month, hoping that the encouragement from y'all will help. I am starting at very short length and am one month in. I will post a pic of my start point in this one then make a one month update thread..
Hi there Mr. Seminole,
Thanks so much for your wonderful introduction, and I very much like and agree with your new approach about growing your hair out -- it is indeed a gradual process; so why not embrace the moment, and just enjoy the journey!
You'll be happy to know that you're far from alone in having "tossed in the towel" and gone back to short hair after failing to grow it long. When I was younger, I tried to grow my own hair out several times, but kept caving into the pressure to cut it back to what was considered a more socially "acceptable" length -- in fact, I didn't succeed in reaching full ponytail-length until my 40th birthday (although I did at least achieve "long-ISH" hair a few times during my 20s & 30s).
Nowadays, I could care less what others have to say about my long hair. If they don't like it, they can simply turn their head away from looking at me!
Also, before I forget to say it: WELCOME to MLHH!!!
"Onward & Downward!" (but prepare yourself for looking at a lot of "outward", first - LOL).

Outward indeed! I have realized if I am on third attempt and don't make it, it will only lead to a fourth or a fifth, this time is for good. Leave my hair to the will of nature from this point further. Thank you for the reply! I am glad to have finally made myself known on the board.
Yes, it's so nice of you to introduce yourself to all of us, as it's really a great community -- in general, it's a very friendly and definitely VERY supportive group of people, all of whom are in favor of one common goal: to encourage anyone who wishes to grow their hair out, to do so without hesitation and without fear.
Occasionally my sarcastic, nastier side of my personality comes out of the closet; but hey, I try to control "my evil twin" as much as humanly possible -- just rest assured that I only let him outside when I feel it's absolutely necessary (LOL)!
Anyway, again... WELCOME to MLHH!!!

Welcome aboard Seminole!
As Ken has so accurately said, you are not alone in having tried many times to grow your hair long, only to give up and always having that gut feeling inside saying "what if..."
Have done the same countless times, and I am too, in the proccess of re-growing my hair out!
Actually, I think we're at about the same length now (I am soon to be 3 months in from a completely shaved head) and it will be fantastic following your progress and comparing our hair growth :)
Here's my YT channel if you feel like taking a look:

Great to have you along, and I look forward to updates from you!
It will be nice to follow you on the site knowing how close we are to each other in growth I agree. I am at 1 month from the picture in the post, new thread to come soon of where it is currently. You will be my inspiration for the next month each time no doubt! Thanks for sharing your channel, I will be checking it out.
My pleasure! And we can BOTH look up to the great people here at the MLHH for tons of inspiration for the "final product" and keep on this journey until we finally reach our goal of longhairdom! :)
Welcome again, buddy!
Hi!
Welcome onboard!
I think it's very important that you stick to your goal (long hair) and keep reading this board as you will find very supportive info.
Also, there are tons of YouTube channels regarding men growing their hair.
Don't worry, the first months are awful but everyone goes through that.
Good luck & keep us posted.
Thanks. I am going to try to look at the "awful" months as months that are too few and far between this time and they are only expereinced once!! Gotta trick my mind.
And you know what?
That is the most interesting part of growing your hair out, because once you are a longhaired, the growing process becomes soooo boring and it seems like there is no progress at all or that you are making little progress.
So enjoy it !!
Hi Seminole,
Welcome to the board! You have definitely come to the right place if you want to grow your hair! You will find a lot of inspiration here! What I will say is the third time will be a charm for you man! You just have to let your hair grow and have fun with the crazy stages. Try not to pay too much attention to your hair if it starts to bother you. Always remember if you cut or trim, it will set you back in reaching your goal. And just ignore the people who try to talk you out of your long hair goal. Those who matter don't mind. And those who mind don't matter.
I have been growing my hair for about 14 months now. I still get bothered by the fluffiness and craziness! Some days I just think my hair has a mind of its own! Slowly but surely I am getting there. I know that one day I will wake up and my hair will be resting nicely behind my shoulders without me having to put it there. Right now I am constantly brushing it out of my face!
So with that said, onward and downward my friend! Please keep us updated on your progress and I look forward to your next update!
Ted
Thanks for posting, it's great to hear from you.
I think we all wanted to grow our hair and for some reason or other, we cut it. Well finally at 44 I started wearing a ponytail.
I wish you all the best, and am glad you didn't wait as long as I did...
Keep growin!
Glad to see that you are de-lurking. :-)
Just a tip (and you may remember this from starting to let your hair grow before): you may find that people begin to comment on your "long hair" starting at three or four inches, especially if you mostly kept it very short. This can be a nice bit of unintentional encouragement. At least I found it to be.
Chris
I like that positive spin on it, thanks. I will remember that
Welcome Seminole! I have had previous failures as well, so I can relate the regret you must be feeling. Be encouraged, and try not to think about is the best advise I can give you :). Oh yea, and stay up to date with everyone here, its a HUGE motivation to know there are so many others going through what you are going through!
