Thought I would add a new picture. Hair is kinda thin especially on top. Don't know how long it will take before it starts looking better.
And a Maui Christmas to you, too, Mike!
I've known of plenty of guys with thin hair on top that have grown their manes out, in spite of any so-called "fashion police" disapproval. To me, your hair looks GREAT -- and your hair genetics are going to be the same, regardless of whether you choose to have it long or short... So why not grow it out as you please?
On another topic...
Hey, it looks like you stole my hat! (I often get accused of looking a lot like Santa - LOL)

Hi Mike..... I am right there with you... as I am thinning more on top than you....
don't let that stop you.... hang in there... thanks for sharing!
Mike, I am in the same boat as you with the thinning hair on top - it is frustrating and sometimes I think my hair looks bad. But, just so you know - when I see your pictures, I think - good for you - it looks good - sure we wish we had long thick hair, but no - yours looks good. keep it going.
People with "dress codes" hassle you about hair that grows down over your ears or that touches your collar. They never give a damn about what you have or don't have on the top.
Much of the mindset that longhairs come to share originates in developing the character traits that evolve from standing up for yourself in the face of such hassles. This mindset turns out to be more important to your identity and to others in the community than where you might have bald spots.
When the rules for gaylonghair.com were developed by a committee of longhairs several years ago (you have to be a longhair to join, so that had to be defined) they all agreed that guys could be completely bald up top and still be longhairs. What mattered was hair falling on the shoulders. That's when people really start to give you crap about your hair.
A common comment was, "Longhairs who are bald on top still get called longhairs, and 'old hippies'". Thinning a bit on top is not a get you a get out of jail free card. Sorry, if you grow out hair like you've got, you're stuck with being a longhair. [grin]
Big beards also count. I know a guy who has little hair up top but has a beard down to his belly button. All the local longhairs consider him a longhair.

Thanx Bill for you encouragement....
Like I said.... the hair comments have stopped... now it's the beard comments...
...
Keep growin...
Ps...did this post from the car on cellphone.... hope pic is viewable...
I flipped it this time.....
You bet. Oh, and I also began getting more beard than hair comments once I grew my beard out long.
Hair up my nose [wink] not so much. (A chuckle I got when I saw the angle of your pic.)

Thank God I'm getting there finally! Let the crap begin!
As usual, great post Bill!

I hear you about the thin on top and I appreciate the comments. The beard is without a doubt here to stay. Santa hat is seasonal however. Sometimes I feel like it falls out faster than it grows but that's obviously only on top. Funny comment I heard from my 89 year old dad the other da. He asked if my long hair was allowed at work. He's been retired for 30 years so he's clearly out of touch with a work environment.
Mike,
My opinion for what it's worth: I can see a little bit of scalp in one or two of the pictures. But the overall impression I get us not that of a balding guy. I think that having hair long enough to pull back mitigates that a lot.
Chris
Great looking head of hair and beard, Mike!
