I was looking for the MLHH store that was posted about
a few threds down the page and noticed the donations page and noticed this:
"Chance of loss is really slight, so just wrap a bill in one sheet of paper so it won't be obvious,"
I have to ask who thought this was a good idea?.
I've been treasurer for a number of organizations over the years
and have found this is never a good idea. I've found that if
you send cash there is a 100% chance it will be stolen. No matter how they wrap it/package it/or send it it will be stolen. I've had people send in cash and it always ends up being stolen. I'd almost swear that someone somewhere along the line has something along the lines of an x-ray to find the cash no matter how well it is hidden/packaged/etc.
A final thought here: do they find the cash when they examine each piece of mail looking for Anthrax laced letters? And does every piece of mail go through Anthrax screening?
Scott is treasurer, and he was when that page was written. As I recall, his concern was that people outside of the U.S. should not send checks because the service fees cashing them would eat up all of the amount sent. Unless ALL cash were stolen, we'd come out ahead with those people sending the cash.
Rather than relying on conjecture, the easy answer to your question is to simply ask Scott. If money were not arriving for the most part, he would have been getting complaints. Scott may want to review his page anyway, because it lists currencies he can accept, and those may now have changed.
I'd presume Scott is getting enough money to run the site, because we have not seen any begging on the board for more. He only asks for money if it looks like he might run out.

Hi Bill,
I am so thankful for this site. I have been meaning to send a donation for a while now. My fixed income makes it somewhat difficult. I sure hope you all understand this. I get way more out of this site than I could ever give back! Many kudos to you all for keeping this a wonderful place to visit! I do sincerely appreciate it!
Ted
Hi Bill,
I forgot to ask if we should add some extra money if we send a donation through Paypal to cover the fees.

I have received cash donations without a problem. Even so, a check or Paypal donation is a better idea.
Scott
Untrue. I have sent cash wrapped in paper to Scott and he's received it without a problem.
You're very lucky then. Around here it can't be done.
Around here you may as well flush it down the toilet.
I remember walking clear across metro Albany, and I didn't get robbed even once! It was part of a walk from Boston to Rome, NY, and I didn't get robbed once on the whole trip.
I recall reading a book written by a guy who rode his bicycle across the United States. He said the most frequent question he got was, "Wasn't he afraid of criminals?' His stock answer was, "Not around here." The questioner would then generally agree, "Yeah, not around here." Well, his point, of course, was that no matter where he was, he was always "here".

Except the point is around here if you mail cash, it will
get stolen no matter how you package it.
I've found that out the hard way.......with customers who lost their hard earned cash in the mail.
