Hey guys, how've you all been?
I need some advice. As some of you know i've been growing hair from a #1 buzz and i'm currently at about 8.5 months. I haven't had a single trim so i obviously have a sort of mullet going on. So my friend was telling me the other day that i should trim my hair so that it'll grow out and shape itself nicely, and that if i didn't now i would have to later down the road. I really don't wanna even trim my hair, but if i don't will i have to cut it even more when it's longer? Should i have it trimmed now or wait a bit, say till my 1 year mark? Or is it possible that i won't have to trim it at all? I'm kinda stuck, so can you more experienced longhairs help me out?
Ps: my hair on the back is at about halfway down my neck and my bangs have already reached my eyes.
You should refrain from cutting any hair until you reach your goal length. Once you reach terminal length you may not need
to trim very much (if any).

I'm firmly entrenched in camp 'dont trim the back... until you reached your goal length.' The problem with getting the back trimmed is that you end up with a really bad bob cut right before going ponytail length... which isn't a good thing.
Another thing that you may notice is that the longer the hair, the more well behaved it gets. IME, it's hard to manage anything between 4 cm and around 15-20 cm... after that the weight of the hair makes it significantly easier to manage. So if you absolutely want to make the catch up cut, I suggest that you keep at least 8-10 months growth in the back to make it more manageable.
The other problem with getting it trimmed is if you tell the hair
stylist to trim 2" inches they'll trim off a foot or two.
Hair stylists have it ingrained in their DNA to chop off long hair.
I hear that! That has been MAJOR set backs for me... People tell me if you get 1/2 inch off, it will grow (??) - but they don't take that off.. they thake off 3 inches...
NEVER AGAIN...
Keep Growin.... :)
It will do that for a short while but as it grows it will balance out, we all started with variable lengths.
Just leave it alone for two years and with weight it will be fine.
Hey Hugo,
I did the exact thing your thinking about doing when I was around the 3-4 month mark. It did work as intended, it kept the mullet look away, but it eventually comes back and now I wish I had those extra inches just to be able to pull my hair back fully, plus to get that cool V look that is more natural as the hair grows.
Not sure if that really helps, but I guess I'm still 50/50 on the idea. I've considered trimming the back again but if I did that then I'd probably wind up with more of a "bob" style look, plus when I did pull it back I think it may look funny.
