Maybe I'm just irritable, but I'm finding myself bothered by tangles in my 6-inch length hair. These are minor tangles that establish themselves as I move around about the day. That is, not after sleeping, or high winds or something that would mess up the hair. I can feel the tangles if I run my fingers through my hair.
Now, my hair is not particularly dry or damaged, so I'm not worried about that. It could be the cold weather in my part of the country. I'm either in subfreezing temps outside or artificially heated environments inside.
I just don't recall my hair tangling, seemingly by itself, the last times I let it grow. However that could be my faulty memory!
Curious as to whether others have these minor tangles develop throughout the day. (I do want to stress that they are minor, and come out with the gentlest of pulls.)
Thanks,
Chris
Dear Chris,
Tangles are just part of the 'price' of wearing your hair longer. I recommend you get yourself a 'tangle' (ie wide-toothed) comb or an afro pick and keep it handy! When you tie your hair back (once it will have grown out long enough to do so), you'll experience this less if you put it in a 'queue' (yes, I love that term) when out in the wind. Maybe you don't remember this from earlier grow-outs because you were less worried about impeccable grooming then? Keep it growing and flowing

I experiment this every single day. In fact, I carry a wide tooth comb with me everywhere I go.
It might be a lack of oils -- perhaps let your hair become greasier (and thus more stable) and see if that helps?
I carry I pick (afro) around with me, I haven't used a comb in 23 years... When my hair airdrys it will curl up, really tight curls in the back, and somewhat unevenly...I pick it out, and then you see what length I have, but still has waves ...otherwise it will tangle... I find ponytailing does alot to prevent tangles on windy days... Keep Growin.... The Spaf Man
Yeah, as the others say, get an afro pick. The teeth are longer, so they will reach all the way through your hair, and there are less teeth, so they won't snag tangles so much.
Pocket combs like shorthaired guys carry don't work well for curly longhairs. (Or for longer curly beards like mine, either.)

Thanks guys for the replies. A wide-tooth comb is what I use when my hair is damp out of the shower. So far, the tangles that I get can be released just by running my fingers through the hair, but it might not be a bad idea to have another wide-tooth comb handy.
