Any tips on haircare when just starting growing?
I have some questions:
1) I've heard that one shouldn't shampoo/condition their hair often while growing it out--is this true? One site I read said to limit shampooing/conditioning to maybe two times a week.
2) Is it true that brushing your hair while wet is bad when growing it?
3) Does using gel hamper growth at all?
4) Would straightening one's hair (mine is kinda bushy) hamper growth at all?
Also, what shampoos, conditioners etc do you recommend while growing, to help growth along and have good body to the hair?
Hi Mr. Hair!
If you look on a post down below, the user Stickeelion already asked the same question. You should look for some answers there.
Also, youve been constantly creating threads (and thats ok) asking different questions, but you barely took the time to respond to the replies you obtained from your threads.
I think its important that you take the time to respond to the replies you get, specially because thats what the board is about and also as a sign of kindness to people who took the time to reply to your questions
Hi Dave,
The "no reply" thing has had me wondering too. But I just think people might be busy and can't reply. It does rub me the wrong way too I must say.
Ted
Which for me raises the question can the original poster tell
when there is a reply? I would mention that now when a new reply is posted it will appear on my screen in blue. After it is read
the post appears in red. Now on my screen that is something fairly new. Before that there was no way to identify new posts
except by looking at the date.
I don't know if this is something changed on this site or on my
computer.
That is a matter of the web browser you use and how you have set it. This is not a new feature. It has been in browsers since the 1990s. The default in most browsers is for links to be blue, and to turn purple for 30 days after you've seen one.
If you have more than one computer, each won't know what you've seen with the other one. Also, if you visit mlhh.org one day and WWW.mlhh.org another, the browser will think the site is giving you two different pages when of course it isn't. These two situations may make links show as blue even though you've really seen the page.
Web page creators can tell browsers to make unread and read links a different color than the usual blue and purple. (The can even make them the same color, which really irritates users.) This is not done at MLHH. MLHH does not mess with any of your defaults or settings.
Note that MLHH also does not use CSS, require Javascript, or use cookies. The site is very clean in this regard. It works fine with browsers that are 15 years old. If you want to see how web pages look without the viewed site having messed with your settings, MLHH is a good place to visit to check.
Hope this helps,
Bill
Hi Bill,
I like the MLHH board because when it's time to clear my history the posts don't change color. My favorite website by far! Thanks a bunch!
Ted
Others should be aware that clearing history in some browsers will turn the links back, though!
In my post above I also should have said that if you use two different browsers, each won't normally know what the other has seen, even if they are on the same computer. This can also cause read posts to look unread.
Bill
That is all good to know. I use firefox exclusively, I hate
Internet Explorer and Chrome.
Thank you for the information.
I am glad this was brought up...
If I look at the board on my "smartphone"...what is mostly the case...new posts are blue, while old ones are purple...(for a while, then after a couple of weeks they are back to blue again...)
But I have found at home, depending which browser I use, the next time you start Windows they are all blue again....even if you just checked a few minutes ago on that same machine.
So I think I found the one that works right and will put a shortcut on the desktop...
Thanks.. The Spaf Man
You may have "private browsing" or some similar feature turned on. Those features wipe out the browser's memory of activity so others in the house won't find it. Part of the carrying out of such a setting could be erasing the memory of what links you've already seen. Just a thought.
Bill
I am sorry, I indeed have been busy. I thank you all for your feedback to my threads, and, upon reading the first reply to this thread, I've made replies to my other threads. Again I apologize if it seemed odd or came off disrespectful. Thank you all again.
Hi Mr. Hair,
Thanks for the reply! I just hope you have been busy growing your hair! Or of course with other important things:)
Ted
Indeed been busy growing out my hair--racing against the clock (I am worried I'm going bald. Which is in part why I'm growing it out now--I didn't grow it out for YEARS due to girls not liking it. Now, if I'm going bald, it's a now or never sort of thing. I haven't had long hair since 1996, age 6, when I had a mullet)
Go for it my friend! I sure hope you can get some good length before balding! Please let it grow and flow and enjoy yourself! I always tell myself that I am responsible for making myself happy! Please don't worry about things you can't change! I'm sure everything will be fine! Like you said, it's now or never! Please keep us updated on your progress!
Ted
Hello and Thank You for sharing.... I too know exactly what you mean.....at almost 44 I started wearing a ponytail and then people KNEW I was serious about this.....
Keep Growin ....
For me its always been that way. New posts are blue and after
I've opened a post its red. Makes it easy to know what I've
seen and not seen.
I totally agree with you comments David. It's fine to ask pertinent questions about the subject at hand but after getting such feedback its always nice when the author of the thread says something back, even if only blanket reply to everyone who responded.I always make an effort to respond to everyone individually but if your busy and the response is huge then at least reply to all in one post.Cheers
Mârk
Not only to show a sign of respect, Mark. But also because if a new person comes here and keeps posting, asking and asking all over and over again, and no answer back, the only thing I can think of is TROLLS.
You can tell when someone is interested on certain topic . This person (to me) only seems to come here and ask a bunch of questions but never answers them back or anything.
Some people just kick the anthill and keep on walking. When we discover a post is from such a rude troll, unless the rest of us are getting value from the responses to the post, it's best to just write the poster off as an idiot and ignore the thread. If the original post's content was not abusive (and only the "walking off" was), I see no harm in letting the thread slide down the board and off into the archives.
Bill
I have to agree with you. But hey, he really got me thinking. Because he came and opened threads asking a lot of questions but never replied back. That sounds like someone who is not really growing hair out and only wants to bother people. I don't know, we'll see what happens.
If he is a real man growing his hair out, then I would expect him to upload a photo of his hair or something like that.
Hi David,
Well that is the natural progression as it's all about communication and seeing for real. We've had some who never posted pics or at best the backs of their heads. We don't bite here so open up and make yourselves known. Otherwise all we can do is assume the poster is a possible troll.Cheers

Heck Mark, this board is one place where I wouldn't hesitate to post a pic. I like how clean this board is kept. As I said earlier, this is my favorite website to visit along with ebay. I would also add that there are some posters who are not in the directory.
Ted
Hi Ted,
Well as I'm sure you know people are allowed to post here whether or not they chose to be in our directory.Being a member has its advantages as your posts go right to the board without having to wait for approval. As for ebay I like that site too as I've bought many things there.Great for finding anything and everything my friend :) Anyway hope your weekend is going well and that your getting ready for the New Year.Cheers
Mârk
Hi Mark,
Thanks for the reply! I really like the directory because it helps keep me inspired to grow longer. However, I do think it would be nice if some of the posters here would post update photos once in a while. Of course, it doesn't have to be a front or face pic. I just think that helps the rest of us on our journeys. But to each his own, as they say.
I love ebay, but sometimes I find too many things I want! Like more stamps! I am working on the British empire, which covers colonies in Africa, Asia, Europe Oceania and of course, Great Britain. I have 8 binders which have all of the pages (about 600 total). You could say I have my work cut out for me!
I hope you ave a safe and happy New year as well my friend! My weekend is not turning out well since I have to go to ER for shortness of breath. Take care.
Ted
Sorry to hear that, Ted. Hope you're okay.
Damon

Hi Damon,
Thanks so much for the well wishes my friend! The ER doctor sent me home telling me I had fluid overload. As I told the other guys, I call bull crap! I have been on dialysis for over 2 years and know when I am seriously overloaded. But tommorrow we'll see when I weigh in at dialysis. Hopefully this was just an isolated incident and things will be fine! Thanks again for the reply!
Ted
Sorry you're having a bad day, Ted. I've been getting days like that off and on now for several years, and I never know when one will hit. Today I'm feeling better than I have in a while, so I'll enjoy it. So far this year I've had four ER trips, and there's not much time to get in a fifth one, so four it will likely be. Hey, it's a good year; I've had no overnight admissions this year at all! First time in several years.
Hang in there man!
Bill
Hi Bill,
Thanks so much for your well wishes my friend! I just didn't understand what people with chronic health issues go through until it hit me! The ER doctor sent me home telling me I had fluid overload and I don't believe her. I have been on dialysis over 2 years and I know what serious fluid overload feels like! So tommorrow we will just see how overloaded I am! I am very good at monitoring my fluid intake and always have good lab numbers.
I am very happy to hear you have had no overnight admissions this year! Yes, we have to enjoy those "good" days when they come along! Nice to hear you're feeling vey good today! The "bad" days do seem to come out of nowhere and knock us down hard. And I will hang in there! And you should too! We will get through it man!
Ted
At least the picture is fairly recent, but yikes, the text? I haven't been a driver in almost 8 years! And my hair is a bit past thigh too!
I'm currently on eBay Embargo until I sell enough items to make space for more stuff. Prepping listings is just not fun...and sooo much more work than bidding!
Hope all is well. Best wishes for the new year regardless.
Oh Trolleypup! It doesn't matter because you are such an inspiration with that awesome hair! Maybe it's easier not being a driver anyway!
I love this! I need to go on ebay embargo! It's so easy to keep buying more and more stuff! Yes, prepping listings is sometimes just not worth it! Seems people are not wanting to pay decent money for things anymore. I do prefer bidding also!
I much appreciate the well wishes my friend! The ER doctor sent me home telling me I had fluid overload. I call bull crap! I have been much more overloaded than I am now and didn't have these problems! We'll see tommorrow how I fare on the scale. I bet I'm only 1 to 3 kilos over my dry weight of 95 kilos. I know my body better than anyone else, but sometimes they don't listen. I do wish you a happy and safe New Year as well!
Ted
Hey Ted,
Very sorry to hear you had health problems but hopefully your fine now and it was just a fluke about the shortness of breath. You never mentioned any other health issues, other than your kidneys,so I'm hoping your good now my friend.
Yea Ebay is great as I mostly buy things there but occasionally sell too.Like Trolleypup mentioned selling is more work and not as fun as buying unless you made a good buck on your item ;)
Oh, being you mentioned stamps I remembered having some cool ones on some envelopes when I bought stuff shipped from Greece.I saved the them with you in mind but kind of forgot until now.I'm attaching a pic of what they look like so if your interested I can ship them to you. Some are dated 2011 and some 2013.Cheers

Hi Mark,
Thanks a bunch for the well wishes my friend! I just took a long nap after I got home from the hospital. They told me I was negative for flu etc. I have to go to dialysis tommorrow and the ER doctor told me I had fluid overload. I don't think so, but we'll see. I am feeling better now though.
Yes, ebay is much more fun when buying. Trolleypup is correct. Most of the time I make a decent profit. A few times I didn't, but I wanted to get rid of those items anyway. If I am attached to an item, I don't come down much on the price though.
Those stamps are very nice. I don't collect Greece anymore. I sold my Europe album. But I do appreciate the offer! If you only knew just how many stamps I have that need to be sorted! I'm still trying to sell the Yugoslavia and other Europe stamps I took out of the Europe album! I had to narrow my collection to only British empire (which is a heck of a lot of stamps to collect)! Thanks again for the offer though! Take care my friend!
Ted
Hi Ted,
Very happy to know your feeling better as I'm sure that had to concern you
when it happened.Well we are only human and sometimes weird things happen
to us on occasion but hope they are kept to a minimum.
No problem about the stamps as I'll just discard them since your not collecting
those.I knew you were into the hobby which is why I thought of you when the package arrived with those cool stamps on them.Normally commercial mail doesn't use stamps like those which was unusual.Anyway have a great day and Happy New Year to you my friend :)Cheers

People have different styles when using the Internet. Some guys only have access at work, so they disappear on weekends. Ken, our user here, only has access on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Some people check the board several times a day. Some may check it once, or every other day. I may check it several times a day when not much is going on otherwise in my life. When on vacation, I may not look at MLHH for weeks.
These usage patterns are different than someone who surfs by the board, makes a post asking for help, and then never comes back to see the answers (or comes back but never lets out a peep, so it looks like that). The people mentioned in the previous paragraph differ in that they are in fact engaging with others when they are here.
It's not always easy to discern the difference at first when someone appears. It only becomes apparent when a pattern is established. Personally I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt, but when I start smelling a rat, then I do react.
