I pay exactly zero attention to any sports, but from those I know who do; they're usually conservative closed minded assholes.
This makes me both very surprised and very happy to see the comments on that article :)
As usual, the comments are what get me... people and their f'n opinions...
Keep it growing and flowin' Rob!
Everybody knows it hair grows out of brain substance, the more hair the less brain.
Please excuse me, I have to do a rain dance now.
I really have to wonder if this really was the case?
My gut tells me it was more the New Orleans
"hit list" scandal. Basically the New Orleans Saints had
s "hit list" where they deliberately targeted players they wanted to take out with injuries.
After seeing alot of football players go down with serious injuries I have to express disgust with the New Orleans Saints
and their hit list tactics.
Reminds me too much of the case of Daryl Stingley.
Injuries in the NFL happen often but it only takes a split second to sustain a season ending or career ending injury.
Daryl Stingley
Interesting theory but the Hit List was operative with the Saints from 2009 to 2011, with the fallout in 2012. Rob Ryan was with the Browns and Cowboys during those years and may have been brought in by the Saints to clean up after that mess (I don't know that for sure, just a guess). In any case I don't see why Ryan would be tainted by the scandal.
Chris
Anyone even remotely connected to the Saints is going to be
tainted by the scandal. When it ocmes to scandals fans have
the memory of an elephant. (The Patriots video scandal was
years ago and people still bring it up.)
I read it after seeing the link. Must have been a slow news day!
One thing about the Fox article that bugged me was the clip they showed of Ryan was with his hair loose and during a game, leading some of the commenters to the article to label the hair "unkempt." As if he wouldn't comb it out, tie it back or otherwise neaten it up for an interview. His wikipedia page shows a picture with his hair a more groomed than in the Fox article.

(This topic got me going).
One other thing that I saw commented was that owners want the coach to look like a CEO, and perhaps there's some truth to that. On the other hand, one of the top NFL coaches, Bill Belichick of the Patriots (aka "Darth Hoodie"), dresses ATROCIOUSLY, as if he's trying to see just how bad he can look. Can't say that about many CEO's. Nonetheless, he would be hired in a heartbeat by just about any NFL team based on his record in NE.
Even though Bill Bellichick dresses ATROCIOUSLY (the league has complained) he has a brillint football mind, he is a genius when
it comes putting a football team together under the salary cap.
And he has eleveated Vince Lombardis films to an art form, where they have very sophistated software for analysinh teams. (60 minutes did a story on it a few years back.)
Between Brady and Bellichick they are a powerful combination.
I would point out dress sill always be an issue with NFL coaches,
they're out there in pouring rain, blizzard snows, 120 degrees
in sumemr, 20 below in winter. And the coach is there every day
from July through the final game (hopefully that final game is
the Super Bowl in February.)
I'd rather have my coach concentrating on the game rather than
his dress or hair.
Whats really funny is Rob Ryan was a head coach already a few years ago...
Amazing that they can focus on that, instead of his ability...
.... and his hair does look cool...

I would mention that being the coach of an NFL team is probably one of the worst jobs on the planet.
The coach gets blamed when it's the overpaid, ego driven
athletes that screw up when the team loses. The coach can be
very brilliant and know the game inside and out but ultiamtely it is the players who go out and fumble the ball, get intercepted, commit penalties, etc.
Based on a quick Google search by a proudly self-confessed non-fan...
With average salaries around the $3.25 million mark, ranging up to highs of more than $7.25 million - for coaching a GAME - I'd have to say the world is full of jobs far worse than this. Even first-time coaches start around $2 million annually. Personally, I think the salaries of coaches and professional athletes are ridiculous, but serve as an accurate indicator of the messed up priorities so prevalent in today's society.
For what it's worth though, I think the guy has every right to wear his hair as he chooses, but it will be interesting to learn how much he, himself, truly values this right. Certainly, he would have no problem finding another coaching job--say, at the college level--that would pay more than enough to live quite comfortably. Will he turn down an NFL salary, if necessary, for the sake of remaining true to himself?

Jobs even worse than being a professional football coach...Except he is coaching guys who make $60 million, have an
ego the size of Texas, and who often do stuff to blow the game.
The team looses and it's the coach who gets fired.
His hair should have absolutely nothing to do with anything. The only thing that matters is his ability to get the job done. I know of plenty short-haired guys who are nothing but losers.
When will people quit being so ignorant?
