I've been growing my hair out for going on 6 months. I just found this site and thought I'd post a picture of my progress with a couple of questions.
My hair is extremely thick and wavy/curly. It usually is very poofy and frizzy. the picture shows my hair flattened out a bit from wearing a hat but will the poof and frizz eventually go away from the weight of my hair? I've tried growing out my hair numerous times but just couldn't seem to get past the stage i'm currently in due to how crazy it gets but I'm trying to hang in there this time around.
thanks
Welcome to the board!
The short answer is yes, eventually your hair well weigh itself down and the poofiness will go away. When it will all depends on how thick your hair is, how thick your hairs are, how wavy/curly your hair is, how fast it grows, etc. But on average, between one and two years is when hair starts to be able to be tamed.
Also, off topic, I find it uncanny how similar you and I look (my avatar is a bit outdated, don't go by that)
Weight will make a difference to how it lies but do not disparage 'big' hair. It looks very attractive on men and should not be cut off.
Hang on in and come back for advice as you go. Good luck
I definitely agree about this, especially on guys with some curl to their hair. I think most of us find that hard to judge in the mirror, and that's why it's good to hear an outside opinion.

Hi Condo,
Welcome to the board! If you want to grow your hair you have come to the right place! I am not sure how long you have grown before cutting so far. But I can say that the poofiness will get less the longer and heavier your hair gets. Frizziness can be handled with other methods. I would not use brushes. I would also try different shampoos and conditioners to find suitable ones. Also, try to wash your hair less frequently. Shampoo has a bad habit of making hair "fluffy" unless you have naturally flat or limp hair.
You just need to try not to pay much attention to your hair while it's growing. I would wear hats since they seem to help you keep your hair tamed. My hair is not exactly tame, but it has improved since I have been growing about 16 months. I am just barely breaking shoulder length with all my stupid layers. Once the layers grow out, everything will be much better. The same will happen with your hair. Just let it all grow out. I would be willing to bet you will be very happy with it at mid-back length. But you will never know until you do it! Hope this helps and I wish you much success in the journey my friend!

Hello, and welcome to MLHH!
You do have nice thick hair that I am sure would be great grown out... Don't be discouraged and be patient..
Thanks for posting and keep growing!

Thanks for all the advice guys
Also, my hair is usually very dry and brittle no matter what I do to it. I only wash my hair twice a week and it never gets greasy or oily. Its not that big of an issue right now because my hair is relatively still short but I'm worried once its long it will be even more dry
Is there anything you guys do to moisturize your hair to make it less dry and brittle?
If you don't already, use a conditioner that you like....

I've started using coconut oils more too now that my hair has gotten longer.
Welcome! It looks like your well one your way after 6 months! The awkward stage is tough, brutal and seemingly forever, but keep on! Everyone here will support you through it ;)
