We should all get a haircut and shave like this guy so we can all be respectable citizens of the world!!
Castaway gets a haircut
Probably all he needed was a good bath. Seawater can make you feel really rough around the old scalp follicles. Last summer, I spent whole days at sea in my little sailing boat and was glad to get a fresh water shower when I got back to the camp site - and I was still very shorthaired.
If I were advising the poor guy, I might have suggested a good brush and comb, perhaps get rid of the split ends and a beard trim. Then he could say what he preferred...
But I agree that this expression is incredibly patronizing and symptomatic of the "Orwellian" world.

Totally agree, but "I might have suggested a good brush and comb" for his beard too I think the beard fits him very well furthermore his face looks old but he isn't gray so the beard and the "unruly mane" made him younger and manlier.
".......get...a...haircut.....get...a....haicut..", those subliminal messages are everywhere, we have to stay strong all the time.

Sad when articles and the media make claims that aesthetic appearance is what makes one respectable and not action. These people are living amongst us, be careful out there!
If he really was a castaway in the first place.
Typical media response... like looks AUTOMATICALLY make you a good citizen..

Although the reporting was completely inapropriate with its bigoted comments, I cannot blame this guy. He 'wanted' a haircut. He had long hair completely against his will. Most of us experienced the opposite in our youth, being forced to get haircuts by unenlightened parents. This guy shouldn't be pressured into keeping long hair any more than we should be pressured into cutting ours. I personally hope his haircut isn't as satisfying as he thought it would be and his experience will inspire him to grow it back out again on his own terms, but the decision is his to make.
