Hey guys,
Some of you may remember that, a couple of years back, I corresponded with quite a few MLHH community members by way of interviews, for a book project related to the experiences of long-haired men. I want you to know that I haven't dropped the ball or forgotten about this. Due to a subsequent change in employment (albeit for the better), the birth of my youngest son, the loss of a home we owned & the sale of a home we were renting, the start of a home-building project that didn't pan out, and what has amounted to eight (!) total moves in a little more than two years (the last of which happened this past weekend), the writing project has been quietly simmering on the back burner, so to speak.
I will soon be starting graduate school part-time (and not moving again until I'm done, in about 4 years!), and don't want to again over-commit myself by saying that I'm going to get the book done within the next year. What I would like to say is that I REALLY appreciate the time you all took to provide your thoughtful responses, and that I absolutely WILL see this whole thing come to fruition one day. As I stated, if and when any profit is derived from the project, it will be used to create an endowment dedicated to sustaining the MLHH indefinitely. In the meantime, I am planning on editing the responses I received into a somewhat consistent format and creating a temporary website or blog on which to share them.
I'll keep you all posted as this progresses, but just wanted to drop you a quick note to let you know that I haven't forgotten, and you're all appreciated!
Cheers,
Val
Hi Val,
After reading your post I remembered about this project and do believe I responded to your out reach some years back to answer your questions.I had no idea the amount of upheaval you have been experiencing the last few years.I knew you changed jobs and did move but that's about it.I salute you doing what is necessary to improve your life and the well being of your family.I should be so proactive making such changes in my career and lifestyle.Have been saying for years how I wanted to move out west to escape the east coast rut and horrible winter weather such as we are experiencing now. With that said I'll look forward to that publication when it finally become a reality. Also that's very generous of you to think of supporting the mlhh with the proceeds.I wish you the very best with graduate school and hoping all your dreams come true my friend:) Cheers!

Val,
Very cool idea. I can totally relate to good intentions with not so good follow through. Good luck with school. I've been out for 12 years now. Yikes!! What will you study?
Any hair updates? I don't think I have ever seen your hair.

WOW, Holy !*#!!*#!!!! Eight moves within a 2-year period would be VERY stressful in my opinion!!! (And I speak from a lot of years of moving experience, including X-country 3 times, as well as several within-city or regional moves; but all of it when I was quite a bit younger, as I now currently live in a rent-controlled San Francisco apartment that I moved into during the summer of '94...)
There will be no pressure from me for you to finish this book, much as I would like to see it completed someday. I so admire your desire to accomplish this project; but seriously, don't push yourself until logic dictates it's a more comfortable & relaxed time to do so!
When I was younger and moved around a lot, -- as well as changed both jobs and careers several times within my lifetime -- the toll this takes on a person physically, mentally, and emotionally is more than we often realize at the time (at least while we are in the middle of it). Once our life settles down and things begin to get a bit calmer and more stable, it's then easier to focus on special projects we've always wanted to pursue.
My best to you and your family, Val, you are such a valued member of this community, and I always love reading your posts and updates -- so take good care of yourself!

That must have happened during the short time when I wasn't active on the board. I don't remember you talking about it. I totally understand that other parts of your life have to come first, though. I hope you don't have to deal with moving any more for quite a long time.
Also, if you need anyone else for the book, I'd be happy to have you add me to the mix whenever you get free time.
Hi,
I wasn't here when you anonced the projekt but its's great to hear that there is someone out there who works on a project to show the world the situation of long haired men, I've seen and read some documentations about that topic but there are not enough to wake up the society.
Best whishes with your stressful live.
-Christian
Thanks for the positive feedback, guys! I'll be sure to keep the MLHH community updated, and would be happy to send out the interview questions to those who have not yet participated.
If you would like to do so, click on my name, "Validus," underlined in the upper left corner of this message, and send me a note to that effect.
Thanks,
Val
Thanks Val, for all of your efforts -looking forward to it!
