I shaved my head in June last year and shaved it again last month due to dandruff and crust like flakes. Because I was getting digusted having it all over my pillow and in public. Another reason is I have thick hair and its hard to get rid of it since it get stuck in my hair and looks terrible. Right after I shaved it I regreted since I been wanting to grow long hair for long time and secondly when I shaved it wasn't really much dandruff and just flakes stuck in there since I have thick hair. I wanted to know if anyone has tips how to get dandruff out better? I also used anti dandruff shampoo but that didn't help and I used Suave Coconut anti shampoo one. Right now I have stubble on my head and still I have flaky skin in areas but not bad as with hair. Another question is if I have dandruff still do I need to shave it again since not sure if that would damage hair and start fresh? Because someone said it would block my hair follicle and grow slowly and not sure if this is true. I have few pimples with dried skin over it on back of head also and will that damage hair or should I just leave it alone? I do know I shaved head before last year but never noticed it last time and might be flaky due to the colder weather. I really want to know if anyone has good advice before it gets thick so I can treat better so it doesn't build up in hair. I do have oily scalp if that helps and I know shaving head again to start fresh might not help anything but i want everything to be perfect so I can finally grow it long without thinking of shaving it again due to dandruff.
I had problems with dandruff, I just Head & Shoulders clean conditioner and that fixed the problem. I also used Head & Shoulders shampoo too but stopped that several months ago.
For me shaving my head was not option.
I think I could suggest various things. If your scalp condition is particularly severe, you might do well to see a doctor or a dermatologist. You might have psoriasis or eczema. That would need treatment with special medicated shampoo.
I had a bad bout of psoriasis in 2006 and it did affect my scalp. With my very short hair, I looked awful. I have had bad dandruff too, and this may be related. When the worst of the psoriasis had passed, due in my opinion to being very often in seawater, I found that Head & Shoulders did the trick for the rest.
I have noticed another thing. Not cutting my hair and letting it grow is also very beneficial, at least for me. I am now in my fourth month without cutting or clipping, and my scalp has improved. I do the gentle hair-pull test and find zero hairs between my fingers, or one or two hairs at most.
I have reduced my use of Head & Shoulders shampoo, and have a conditioner for grey hair anti-yellowing and another "general" conditioner for dry hair such as I have. Now and again, I look at my scalp, wherever I might feel an itch, and find nothing to write home about.
You might have the same luck as I have had. Another tip - keep yourself in good health. Eat good food and a balanced diet, and take vitamin supplements at the recommended doses (unless your doctor prescribes otherwise).

My blog
Hi Ryan, I am in exactly the same situation, deandruff on the sculp and other body parts and an oily skin.
My dermatologist found ot I have psoriasis, now I have a cortisone cream and biotin, it works verry well.
Also the growing hair absorbs the oil and the itching gets better every month.
When it comes to anti-deandruff shampoo------don't use it, it dries your sculp and damages the health of your hair in long term.
Aditionally first time I had the problem years ago and I used
head&shoulders and it got away but it was during puberty so it was just a indicator because I am the only one in my family with that problem, after a fiew tests my dermatologist foud out that the shampoo activated the damaged genes so it caused my psiorasis.
(biotin works wonders)
Hopefully I could be helpful.

Surely you should go to a doctor and get treated for the dandruff to cure that and then start growing. There is no need to shave again.
Thanks for another wonderful post. Where else could anybody get that type of information in such an ideal way of writing? I have a presentation next week, and I¡¯m on the look for such information.
Try using Nizoral shampoo. It works really well.
