Snowboarding is one of my favorite sports both to participate in and to watch. I admit I was quite disappointed when Shaun White cut off his trademark long red hair. He had had long hair from a young age so I had thought it might have been an identity marker for him. When asked about why he cut it, his response was that it was because he was told he couldnt. Seems lame to me but, whatever, it was his choice. I feel that hes become a little too corporate for my tastes.
I watched the slopestyle qualifying round yesterday and several guys had great long hair. I forget his name but a Norwegian had an amazingly thick mane. The guy Im hoping will win the halfpipe competition is Danny Davis. Yes, he has great long hair but he seems to capture more of the ethos of snowboarding too. He was out taking powder runs while in Russia just for the pure fun of it and posted about it on his facebook page.
Heres a photo of Danny.
My BlogMy understanding is he was told he could not donate his hair
to locks of love since it had been dyed. Apparently he did anyways.
(Could some of his endorsement contracts stipulate that he can't cut his hair? I'm not sure, I found that quoted puzzling.)
That seems like a good enough excuse for me. I won't cut my hair if someone tells me that I can't, but there are plenty of other things that I'll do too prove someone wrong. But maybe that just because I'm extremely competitive.
