Hi MG
I think this is about as well as I can do, at least in a quick 45 minutes. Yes, he has a hat on in this photo, but it is interesting to note just about how long his hair actually was and the fact that he also had freckles. Heck, I would have never known that.
Take care-
Justin~
Thank you. You could tell he had freckles from the old photo?
I think his hair was blondish from written descriptions.
A quick 45 minutes? Whew, makes me tired to think of it.

Yes. Judging by the complection that I had detected in the B+W, it appeared to me as if in real life he was of light complection which would tend to have gone along with the freckles. The original is above so as to compare. To have turned the hair this way might have taken who knows how long.
I was surprised at how many other colorized attempts there have been made of Custer and you may want to check these out. My way of doing it is of my own invention which took at least 4 years of on and off experiments to develope, and so I do not follow what many others say to do or how "easy" it is to do. (It isn't.) My attempts aim at trying to be as realistic as possible. This being so, I toss aside glamour colors to dazzel the eye. Maybe someday I will get it right, but I highly doubt it. LOL :-)
Justin~
Well in my opinion your attempts are pretty darn good.
Thanks. You are much too kind.

I AGREE!
Thank you so much fitzgarce and glad you liked seeing the "ginger" in Custers close-up. How accurate I was? I have no idea, but it "might(?)" have been at least somewhat close. Take care and the best to you in your own long hair journey.
Justin~

Maybe this is more on the order of how Custer really looked per accounts written in the history books. Now you can see the freckles close-up. (Possibly facial scars as well.)
I gotta say - love the Ginger in this guy - of course, I would be partial to ginger... it kinda runs in my bloodline... freckles and all!
