Yesterday I went to a hospital to take some paper work . When I arrived, I told the receptionist my name and that I needed to give these papers to someone who works there (she is a girl and had never seen me before).
The receptionist asked me to wait.
I waited like 5 minutes and a girl came to the receptionist and asked him "So, where is the guy?" and the receptionist said "he is there" and the lady asked "where?" and I was like "Hellooo! Its meeee!" . Yes, she though I was a girl.
I did not feel offended or anything, but this is happening to me very often lately. I get the stare from guys all the time and I am not even at waist length or anything.
I always wear my hair loose because I dont like wearing pony tails. It just doesnt convince me.
Just a fun story I wanted to share and warn those who are growing their hair that this will probably start to happen as soon as you grow it out more hahaha
Cheers!
Hi Dave,
Thanks for sharing this story! I love it when people mistake men with long hair for a woman! I can't wait to shock people! But you must be getting close to waist length by now. How long is your hair now?
Ted
Thanks Ted. The front part touches my nipples. The back part is longer. My hair grows in V shape.
Sounds great Dave! I had my wife cut off the V in the back of my hair. I will probably let it grow into a V again and leave it alone. Keep it growing man!
Ted
Way to go Dave! I hope they were shocked!! Have fun with it...
The Spaf Man
I definitely have fun :)
thanks for your reply.
Haha, this happens to me every once in a while, usually if I have my hair in a bun. I guess I am kind of skinny and can't grow any facial hair, but I guess its a compliment in a way.
Also, I had a friend who is studying spanish who recently got back from a study abroad in Argentina tell me that a lot of guys down there had long hair? Is that true?
According to my own statistics guys down here have:
buzz cuts / no hair : 25%
middle length hair: 50%
long hair (past shoulders): 25%
That's a pretty good number at least compared to where I am at, but I am sure my friend lumps the medium in with the long too. Still kind of cool.
I believe its a compliment to me too. Women are beautiful and their hair is cool, why feeling upset? haha
It only happens to me once or twice a year and then only when they
see from the back. They usually apologize when they see me from the front. For me it doens't help that i'm rather slight of build, not very tall, and am always wearing cut off shorts.
But then at the age of 59 I don't care whats others think.
I am glad to see this happens to other people too. Not that I worry about what people think about me..
it happens to me atleast once a week
This happens to me several times a day , every single day.
I also remember once when I was in the men restroom (there was no sign outside indicating that it was the men restroom).
I was getting ready to leave the bathroom when suddenly a guy came in through the door, when he saw me he immediately left the place (he thought i was a girl) but 30 seconds after he came back in and looked at me smiling or laughing at what had happened haha.
You should not feel offended in this situation. Keep it growing!
Things like this happen to me also, maybe once a month :)
But when I was 15-16 years old this happened to me almost everyday. There were jealous people who knew very well that I am a guy and called me "girl" again. Now this happens rarely. My hair is still on my head and intend to grow it longer.
Greetings from Sofia!
Not sure how it would have been if I had started growing my hair out when I was 15 or 16 haha. Now I am 25 .
I also intend on keep growing, I am not willing to cut it or whatsoever.
Greetings from Buenos Aires, Arg.
Nice!
Thanks for your reply buddy :)
I get mistaken more now that I have it in a bob than when it was waist-length years ago. It's a professionally styled cut and really a girl's cut but I like it. I am straight and don't act effeminate, so they must just be going off the style. so, enjoy it and consider the mistakes as compliments!
I totally take them as compliments. Hey, women are cute and their hair (in general) is in better condition too. Why being upset about it? haha
"It just doesnt convince me. "
Not sure what you meant by that?
I've only been mistaken from the back. It actually happened much more when it was shorter and in certain layered cuts.
It does still happen every once in a while since I maintain it a little above waist. I've had waitresses approach from my back and ask "How are you ladies doing this evening?" My wife just smiles as I say in my deep voice "We're doing fine" ;-)
Like I said, this happens to me every single day, either when they see me from the back or from the front. And you know what.. my hair happens to grow in layers, that is the natural way it grows. Would that be more feminine than the non-layered hair?
That's only happened to me once. I guess I'm too old and cranky looking for that to happen too often.

Even the blind don't confuse me for a girl. My voice is too deep.
Bill
Doesn't always work for me. My voice is deep,
for many years I had a beard, I have a moustache,
and i've got hairy legs. Still when i'm seen from
the back with long hair and cut off shorts i'm still
mistaken for a girl. It also doesn't help that i'm
slight in stature. I have a good laugh over it.
It only happens about twice a year.
It must be that cute waddle, you know, the way you wiggle your butt.
[big grin because really kidding here}
Bill
Yes, I can definitely confirm the fact that your voice is exceptionally deep, and that even a blind person would never confuse you for being a girl. And even if you didn't speak a word, all a blind person would have to do is ask to touch your face, and they'd find the most bearded of bearded individuals -- so you are safe from probably ever hearing that "girl" comment, no matter what!

This happens to me several times a day. Sometimes in clubs or bars, guys try to flirt with me, they come and talk to me and they realize I am a guy once I speak. That is so awkward.
Hi
That's really great. You must be making terrific progress! :-)
Hmmmmm, you know what? Some of them might just be jealous because they would like long hair too and don't have the guts to grow their own hair long. Reason? All hung-up on "what will people think." Well, if so, then that is their problem.
Thanks for the fun posting.

This quote was posted on Facebook by my old history teacher today...
"Life is too short to waste any amount of time on wondering what other people think about you. In the first place, if they had better things going on in their lives, they wouldn't have the time to sit around and talk about you. What's important to me is not others' opinions of me, but what's important to me is my opinion of myself. ― C. JoyBell C.

At this point sometimes I feel like my hair isn't growing as fast as it used to do . Probably because it's already long so the growth is less noticeable than before.
Don't sweat it bro. It's a funny story. Hasn't happened to me yet, but I'd laugh if it did. Hair's looking awesome!
Thanks! I really have fun , it's not that I regret every time someone thinks Im a girl haha .
This has never happened to me, but I am 6 foot tall (1.8 meters) and on the larger side so that may make a difference. I would think someone not as tall with a smaller frame would be mistaken for the wrong gender more often.
I know! I am 5ft 6 inches (1.69 meters) and I weigh 118 lbs so my body does not really help .
I'm 5'9" now, weigh 160 pounds which also makes it easy for me
to be mistaken for a woman. Having long hair and wearing cut off shorts doesn't help.
When I was in college I was 5'9" and weighed 105 pounds. Ironically at that time my hair was knee length, I was also
always wearing cut off shorts, but I never got mistaken for
a girl. I also had a beard at the time too.
It only started happening in recent years when my weight went up to the 160 pound neighborhood. Go figure.
Well, you could always grow your beard and/or your mustache out. That will end this problem in the future, I would bet!

Actually i've found that it doesn't. During the 1980s I had knee length hair, a beard, a moustache. Beteen my slight build, my cut off shorts, and only being 5'8" I was still mistaken for a girl from the back. All these years later it still happens. But then
at the age of 59 I don't care what others think.
I never felt comfortable wearing a beard really. Because of my skin color it looks like my face is dirty if I let my beard grow :S
Wow! This is a great compliment! Your hair is amazing...this is another proof of it! I'm really happy for you!
Wish being mistaken for a girl would happen to me. That would be the confirmation that I am a long hair! But I guess I will have to wait longer as my hair is only at arm pit length.
Keep on growing your fantastic mane!
A.D.
Thank you!
I actually never take that as an insult from anybody haha In general (not always) women have better hair than men. So that's ok with me. And yes! That means that I am considered a longhair.
I will keep on growing, for sure.
