It's a sobering thought that when they took a man to the guillotine in France (I believe for the last time in 1972), a part of the "ritual" was to cut the man's hair off if it was long, and the shirt collar. That was just before he got his cognac laced with a sedative and a cigarette.
Barbaric! Thank goodness they did away with capital punishment here!

Robespierre guillotine le bourreau après avoir fait guillotiner toute la France.
I would translate this as "Robespierre guillotines the executioner after having guillotined the whole of France [the French people]".
Robespierre was a very nasty man, and that's how he finished up, on his own machine.
