I posted a reply to Anthony's post earlier and guess I have should of made an intro first. I have been known to "jump
the gun" a few times.
I stopped getting my hair cut Feb 2013. I told myself it was to complement my Civil War re-enacting impression. It didn't take long to realize I wanted my hair long in spite of the CW impression. I just plain love it long. I have gotten compliments from a lot of women but men just give me "that look".
Anyway, I am 73 years old and really don't care what anyone thinks.
I enjoy reading all the post here and hope I can give someone else a reason for keeping it long.
I ride motorcycles, too, and fight the tangles each time I ride.
Regards,
White Mane
I love your long white hair. Years ago my hair was all black,
now at the ripe old age of 59 it is all grey. It will remain it's natural color until the day I die be it grey or white. And it will remain long.
Are you in a civll war re-encacting group? A number of years ago I joined a civil war group, we are not re-enactors. Rather
we are an honorary group, i.e. we honor the boys in blue who
answered President Lincoln's call to save the union. I have a number of relatives who are active in the group, and for many
years they pleaded with me to join the outfit. Well I finally broke down and joined the group with absolute determination that
if I had to cut my hair i'd be gone from the group. I've now
been in the group for four years now and haven't received a signle complaint about the hair. In fact there are a number
of other guys in the group with long hair. (Mine is the longest though). When i'm marching with the group or performing ceremonies in uniform I always have my down and loose. The bottom line for me is I have long hair and I refuse to hide it
or restrain it in a pony tail/braid/bun/pig tails. The only time I do is when it is very windy, stormy or when there is a potential for damage.
I'm 59 yesrs, have had long hair since 1964, and also don't care what anyone else thinks.
Your hair is an inspiration and will be even more of an
inspiration when it is longer.
(My avatar was taken at the National Cemetery last memorial day.)
Thanks, LH From Albany. I'm glad to hear that you are in the hobby. I'm not in a unit but do ceremonies as you do. Your avatar is awesome. I would like to go to the National Cemetery at some point in time.
My hair started turning grey when I was in my mid 30's.
I appreciate the compliment.
Every Memorial day we go to the National Cemetery to honor those
from all wars, then we do a second ceremony for those who made
the ultimate during the civil war.
Thank you
I would like to go to the National Cemetery at some point in time.
There are a number of national cemeteries around the country.
HH,
Yes, I have seen one here in Ga. I thought you meant Arlington in Washington. DC.

HH,
Thanks for the info. I'll keep it on file.

You're welcome. The best way to keep it on file is to bookmark it in your browser. I would also mention that they have a grave locator for the national cemeteries.

Cheers,

Thanks, Val. I certainly appreciate the kind words.
Welcome, White Mane - you have very impressive, beautiful hair. It also seems to have a good length for starting to grow it out just last February...
Thanks, fitzgarce. I appreciate the compliment.
Hello!
Of course you shouldn't care what others think! It looks good, there's nothing wrong. I'd say this is a great progress for 1 year growth. Continue growing it out.
Regards.
Welcome to a board that has given me so much encouragement too!
My hair too is nearly white, and yours is a lovely pure white, and your growing out is much more advanced than mine. I'm only at 6 months since my last haircut.
You have a lot of courage, because we grey and white haired guys don't always get much encouragement. Don't care about looks you get or what people say. You are free!
You sound like you have a wonderful active life with the Civil War enactment and your biking. It's a long time since I rode a motorbike, but I love the wind through my hair when I'm on my pedal bike or out in my little sailing boat.
I too am feeling the resistance to my comb as the tangles have to be teased out gently to avoid breaking the hairs. It's an encouraging sign, because I didn't get that when it was short and every day was a bad hair day. I prefer to spend a little more time combing.
I had a very badly flaking scalp as a short hair, and now I have no problem with it at all. Your hair is looking really great - thick and no balding. You are very lucky. Keep it growing!

My blog
Thanks for the kind words, Anthony. I use my brush after riding before I touch my comb. The brush gets the tangles out
without pulling my hair. I start at the bottom and work up gently. Then use my comb.
I looked at your blog and am very impressed.
Regards,
Jim
Hi Anthony. Thanks for the compliment.
I use my brush when I first get off my bike to get rid of the tangles. I work from the bottom up and then use the comb. It
seems to work well.
I looked at your blog and am very impressed. There is a lot to learn there.
Jim
welcome to you at the long haired men hyperboard
it's difficult to believe you are 73 years old seeing your hair and its growth speed
now, after the civil war, you may also play in the independance war
Hi chamane,
I also wanted to thank you for posting you great picture, it is inspiring..
...Take Care The Spaf Man
Hi Chamane,
I appreciate your comments. You, also, have a fine looking head of hair and beard. For several years there was an older fella who portrayed a Revolutionary War soldier in the July 4th parade in Douglasville, Ga. Didn't see him the last couple times.
He was a rather frail person when I saw him. Hope he is still
with us. I have been thinking of thatimpression.

I don't remember if you posted before or not, chamane, but in case you have not or I missed it - I have to say it was a nice surprise to see your photo... cigar is a nice touch... great beard and nice color of hair - reminds me a bit of my own (only not so long as yours yet...)
Hi White Mane,
Welcome to the hyperboard, and I am delighted that you have found us and shared your progress with us. You have a wonderful, full head of silver hair, and it us great to see more older guys growing their hair long. I look forward to following your future progress!
Keep it growing,
David
Hi David,
Thanks for the kind remarks. And the welcome to the boards.
Jim
Thanks for posting, you have great hair! (I wish mine grew like yours...) Looking great and welcome to the board!
The Spaf Man
Thanks, Spaf Man. I have enjoyed your post.

White manes rock!
Welcome, White Mane. Long hair is not just for the young 'uns, here we know. There are quite a few of us older guys here, too! There's a very broad spectrum of ages here on the MLHH.
Glad to see your silky mane now gracing these pages.
Bill
Thanks, Bill. Your beard is outstanding. I hope your hair is as long as yout beard. Glad to see you here.
white mane
My mane is a bit longer than my beard, but it is fine and likes to bunch up around my shoulders most of the time. My beard, on the other hand, is slightly shorter, but it is very coarse, and it goes for hanging straight down. This can make it seem the longer.
In reality, though, I don't ever trim either, and "my hair" is just one big mass. The picture above is several years old, but it was taken at the right angle to show how my mane and beard just run together. Of course, it's all whiter now.
Bill
Hi White Mane,
Welcome to the board my friend! I can see why men give you "that look"! You have some of the nicest looking white hair I have ever seen! And the compliments from the women are all that matter anyway! It's hard to believe you have any tangles as smooth as your hair is! I am definitely inspired by your progress! Please be well my friend!
Ted
Hi Ted,
I really appreciate your kind words. And I am impressed with the friends I have met here.
If I need a lift from a bad day all I need is to read your words.
I have to say using my hair brush is the key to getting the tangles out. I noticed while riding, my hair whips around my neck toward the front instead of waving in the breeze in back. I think it depends on which helmet I wear.
But it isn't bad enough to cut it shorter, which I refuse to do.
white mane
Actually the best way to handle it is to avoid getting tangles
in the first place. The main problem with tangles is the potential for damage to the hair. I hate having to restrain my hair in a pony tail/etc. but I also detest tangles especially when they damage the hair. So I do relutantly pony tail it/bun it/braid it/pig tail it. As nice as it might be have your hair
whipping around in the breeze the damage makes it now worth it. And since absolutley postiveley flatly refuse to cut the hair I will, on occasion, break down and tie it a pony tail, etc.
Those of us still in the "awkward stage" have the option of using a headband for sports, and a couple of discreet hairpins for social occasions when it can't be left loose. I really do look forward to being through the awkward stage.
Indeed - absolutely NO cutting!
Anthony

My blog
I used to tuck my hair inside my jacket when I rode a motorcycle, but yours might have to grow a bit longer for that. Wearing a scarf around my neck and/or putting my hair in a ponytail helped, depending on whether I was in a hurry. In summer I would use a (fake) silk scarf, a white one to look like the Red Baron/Snoopy, LOL!
Hi elektros,
Thanks for the info. I must compliment you on your fbinut I e looking hair and beard. What a contrast to mine.
I think you are right about having my hair a bit longer will help. I am trying to fine a nylon or silk head coverthat will
fit under my helmet and keep my hair covered. My full coverage helmet comes down lower in the back but it is really too hot in
warmer weather.

Hello--
Just wanted to welcome you and also say that your hair looks great! I'm 62 years old and have worn my hair long for a little over four years now. My wife and I were talking one day and I admitted to her that it was something I'd always wanted to do, but all my life there had always been people telling me all the reasons that "you can't do that," be it parents, teachers, bosses, or just more conservative people in general. That day I came to the realization that God, my wife, and myself were the only three that I had to please. And I haven't looked back. When I first started the process, my son asked me why I was doing it, just out of curiosity. I told him that it was something I'd always wanted to do and I explained that it was really no different than the tattoos or the piercings the kids get today. He understood. Cool. At any rate again, welcome. Steve
