Bad rotation, courtesy of my iPad. I'll try one more time.

Hey Val, I love it! Great style and Ooooo, those awesome multicolored hair ties :)Maybe that can be your awkward stage hairstyle my friend.Looks knarly ;) Cheers
Mârk
I don't doubt my wife will try something like that on my awkward stage hair. Just as long as she keeps the scissors away! She hate the bits curling up in the usual way, but I just said she'll have to be patient - another year or so before the wavy bits will be behind my back and no longer at the sides. Most days it looks like a German soldier's helmet from World War II!
We ought to have a thread full of photos of the "awkward stagers" on this board.

Anthony,
'fraid I'm never goin'back to the awkward stage!
peace,

No, I don't see you going back to awkward stage... :-)
Unless you're silly enough to cut it and regret it, and that is hardly likely.

Anthony,
At your current hair length, one way you might avoid the "helmet" look could be to work a small amount of gel or pomade through your hair when it is damp, lightly squeezing or "crunching" it with your fingers, to create a stylish tousled appearance. I think this would suit you quite well. Have fun with it!
Cheers,
Val
Thanks, Mârk. I doubt the multicolored ties (or multiple topknots) will become a standard accessory for me, but I do enjoy letting my kids express themselves artistically! The single topknot, on the other hand, can be a rockin' style once the hair is long enough.
Above is a cool drawing of a topknotted Toshiro Mifune, in his portrayal of Mushashi Miyamoto. Can't argue with that!

Val
It's what Scott Nagel looks like, if you've taken a LOT of acid.
Bill
Thanks, David. I really admire your attention to courtesy and good manners. You are, truly, a gentleman and a scholar!
Bill, no worries. I don't know who Scott Nagel is, and even a quick Google search turned up little more than a real estate broker from Minnesota. At any rate, I was blessed with a thick skin and the ability to find humor in most anything, even when it's self-deprecating. My typical response when I'm informed that someone looks like me is to say, "Oh, the poor guy!" ;)
Cheers,
Val
Scott Nagel is our own Absalom! If you click the Moderators link at the top, all of our real names are there. :)
Oh, THAT Scott... In that case, I'll take it as a compliment! :)
Thanks,
Val
Yeah, it was a total joke. The most striking element of Scott's mane's appearance was there (the rainbow colors of multiple hair ties) but everything was mangled. The ties were wires instead of elastics, the tails were numerous instead of one, the tails were short instead of long, the hair was black instead of brown.
Yeah, it was like Scott would look totally mangled, like during a very bad acid trip. [grin] To someone who didn't know Scott like most of us do, they wouldn't get the joke, of course.
Bill
It'll be interesting to see what he will do as your hair gets longerrrr... ;-)
JustCarol,
I'll be sure to let you know... the sky's the limit!
Cheers,
Val
A great Dad and a good sport for sharing it with us... I love it.
Thanks, Fitz! Our time on this earth is so precious and limited... nothing drives this point home for me more powerfully than the speed with which my kids' childhoods seem to race along. I try to play with them and enjoy their time as kids as much as possible. As far as the hair goes... there's no shame in my game! :)
Cheers,
Val
You've got that right - enjoy every minute.
I turned around and my kids grew up and I thought I tried hard to pay attention to them, play with them and spent lots of time when they were kids... Now, they are grown up and on their own and I miss them terribly...
My boys are 27 and 25 and my girl is 22... this was taken last summer - me and my sons - love them with all my heart
Great picture, Fitz... cool lookin' bunch of guys! Thanks for sharing :)
Cheers,
Val
it is impossible a kid make me too: my hair is too much long lol
Your hair is impressively long, but never too long to style creatively! It's like having more paint for the canvas :)
Cheers,
Val
Hi Val,
Your son should go on one of those make-over shows for the rich & famous, as I think he has more talent than the vast majority of professional hair stylists I've seen... AND he accomplished this original look on you WITHOUT having to resort to using any scissors - WOOHOO!!
Thanks for the fun post and pic, it's a definite winner!
- Ken
Thanks, Ken... I agree that his make-overs are FAR superior to the hack jobs they perform on day-time television!

Awesome Pic... Glad to see you having fun with your kids!

Thanks, Damon. I've actually never heard the expression "kiss curl." It's a trait of the awkward stage that I particularly enjoy. In the U.S., it's often referred to as a "spit curl," or as an "S-curl," in reference to Superman's signature unruly lock. Maybe now that the character has been portrayed--excellently!--on the big screen by one of your countrymen (Henry Cavill, see above), the nomenclature will catch on there as well.
Cheers,
Val
British: "kiss curl" = American/Canadian: "spit curl"
