I was reading some posts about some guys here being mistaken for girls and my advice is not to worry what people think. To begin my situation is I am 32 and I haven't even had long hair due to being afraid of family comments or public comments. I shaved my head in 2003 for few years and family members didn't like it and they made negative comments. A couple years ago I tried growing long hair and family made negative comments on that but due to that i keep cutting and delaying longer due to others. I do agree with others here that even if you give up and cut hair they will still harass about something else for example some family keeps saying I am too skinny after I cut hair. I was on a bald guys forum since I wanted to shave head before I wanted to try growing long hair and I found something that I remembered that applies to long hair guys. Couple members on the forum worry about being mistaken for skinheads or cancer patients. Also this is similar situation to a recent post on this site and that is a bald by choice member said a little boy asked where's your hair. So basically the point is adults and kids will say something either way. I do agree with other members here in earlier posts that you should enjoy your hair since life is short and I do regret not growing before since my hair used to be thick but noticed it was getting thinner and want to enjoy it now and not until I am older incase I go bald. For guys who worry about negative comments from total strangers I feel you should just ignore it and move on. Because I used to worry about what others thought but like other members said and my opinion now is I don't go home with them or live with them or I won't ever see them again. Also ask yourself why should I get worked up or change my appearance for someone who I won't ever see again or even if you do it's not illegal and its your body and not theirs. I feel that if you don't stand up for yourself and stop doing something due to others you won't enjoy life and plus it's like they are winning by worry what others think. The first time I wanted long hair was in early 90s when I used watch the metal music videos and thought long hair looked badass. Another thing I remembered that looked cool in the 90s was in waynes world movie when they did the headbang scene in the car with Queen. When I told my mom I wanted to grow long hair she said no and made negative comments. So that's why I want to put myself first now since I am tired of worrying about others and enjoy my life since you only live once. Lastly even when I have shaved head I noticed some people give me dirty looks. It doesn't matter what the lenghth is or style because some people will make negative comments either way and it's not their business.

Hello Ryan,
my advice is to stop warrying about what others say and what they think. You say that you're 32 - so just start living your life man! You see, some people don't like skinny guys, other don't like shaved heads. It's easy to find something wrong on a person who want to critisize. If it's not thye long hair, it should be something else. Judgers evertwhere!
For example I don't like buzz cuts and bald heads...
I would support you to grow your hair long.
By the way, metal scene is my weakness. All members of my family listen to rock and metal music and all we know what does long hair mean! My cousin is also a longhair.
Greetings from Sofia!
I know what you mean..... that's why in the past, I have had to cut even though I didn't want to....
NOW I don't care... Life is short.. I'm not in my 20's anymore.... (40's now)
Don't wait for others to approve.... Just do it...
All the best... The Spaf Man
