I have been moving my garden shed from one place to another, and re-roofed it. I had to rummage through my workshop to find a box of screws I knew was somewhere. I discovered my old English tape measure in both metric and Imperial.
I was curious to measure my hair at various parts of my head and found that most of my hair had reached 5 inches. I thought this was rather good, since I had cut it very short last September, and left the longest hairs no more than half an inch long, tapering to almost nothing at the back and sides, a real crew cut as we call it in England. So, that makes a difference of four and a half inches - in only 6 months. That comes to three quarters of an inch per month - in winter!
That's rather exciting for me, because in another 6 months, theoretically, I would have a total of 9 inches. 9 inches at half an inch a month take 18 months. I might be getting 18 months' growth in only one year. I might be ponytailing in only 6 months' time, even if there's still quite a bit of loose hair that's not yet long enough.
I'll send my monthly update photo in a couple of weeks.
Encouragements to other awkward stagers. Keep persevering. I have days when it's really all over the place. Just look after it, even on the "bad hair" days, and you'll "make it".

My blog
Congratulations on the excellent rate of growth, Anthony! About 20 years ago, my hair also grew at an average rate of 3/4" per month. It now seems to vary seasonally, between that same rate and 5/8" per month. I have found that taking 1,000 to 2,000 mcg of biotin per day does seem to speed the growth rate slightly, though the chief benefit is a drastic decrease in hair shedding. I'm looking forward to your future updates!
Cheers,
Val
Many thanks, Val, for this encouragement. I have been on 300µg of Biotin per day, and I lose very little hair (at least at present), maybe only 2 or 3 strands in the comb after combing my whole head. If I take 900 µg (3 tablets) per day, will that be unreasonable?
It's the 15th April today and I last sent an update shortly before the end of March. I'll do a photo at the end of this month or even in May, so that the difference will be that much more pronounced. The ends are curly and the back is sitting nicely on my collar, but I am at least six months from any kind of ponytail that wouldn't look ridiculous. Patience - I keep telling myself.
I am able to wear my hair loose and natural in public without felling self-conscious, which is a great step.
Photo soon...
Anthony
