Well, guys - spring has sprung where I live, finally - and it is approaching 80 degrees (F) here. My hair growth is just about long enough so that I ventured out with my hair pulled back in a tail - this is the first time I intentionally wore my hair this way to work. I was feeling a bit self conscious about it this morning, because I am not the kind of guy that likes to draw attention to myself... but my wife told me I need to get over it or I need to get a hair cut - so, I got over it!

at 16 months and loving it...
Fitz
Congratulations on reaching this milestone, Fitz! Enjoy the well-deserved adulation of your coworkers :)
Enjoy your 80-degree weather, too. Thought it's begun to melt on some days, we've had snow on the ground for the past 6 months here, and are expecting a blizzard with 6 to 8 inches of accumulation again tonight. Spring can't be TOO much further away!
Cheers,
Val

Man Fitz! I was hoping to see a pic of your tail! I am very happy to hear of the positive reception! I have also had people ask me if I cut my hair when I wear a tail. Your wife sounds like a very cool lady! Just get over it! Haha, I love it! And I sure am glad you're loving it too my friend! Just wait until 24 months! Keep it growing my friend!

Just wait until 24 months! Keep it growing my friend!
One month at a time, Teddy! Some days it's one day at a time...
Thanks for the encouragement, guys.
Good deal Fitz! I was hoping you would post a picture..
.. just the other day someone asked me if I had a haircut .....and then they saw it was in the back...
.....of course that's what they would have wanted me to have done ..
...glad you didn't.....Onward and Downward... The Spaf Man....
I remember back in the summer 2001... I took a summer course which took place in a second floor science classroom of a high school and it was HOT! I was still wearing it down. I was a hot mess during the 5 hour days for those 2 extremely hot weeks.
By the end of the summer, I attended a one day conference with other team members (I teach), but this location had AC. This was the first time I wore it tied back!!! I was very self-conscious, but was determined to wear it tied back. Guess what? I got nothing but compliments from the females :-)
I wore it tied back at the beginning of that school year too and have never looked back.
That first step can be hard. But it's easy after that. It's a bigger deal to us than everyone else around us.
Congratulation on reaching another milestone. Always great when progress is showing.
Hi Fitz,
What a cool post, I love it! I can relate to your comments about feeling a bit self-conscious, as I remember feeling that way too, back in the day when I first ventured outdoors wearing my first ever ponytail -- and come to think of it, also when I braved my first time tying my hair up in my first public "man-bun"... that was even scarier for me, because as you said, I really truly didn't like drawing any unnecessary attention towards me.
As I look at it all now, wearing long hair in a ponytail, braid, or bun: it's simply a practical thing. Women have been practical about their long hair for years -- so what's the big difference, just because we are men? NOTHING, there is no difference. The longer we wish to grow our hair, the more we also have to take into account the issues of practicality -- and also safety. I tie my hair back over both reasons -- as well as when on a windy day, to prevent tangles. If I really wish to wear my hair loose all of the time, I'd probably eventually go back to a more "medium"-length hairstyle; but for right now, I'm enjoying growing it as long as possible!
Take Care -- and as i say too often around here: "Onward & Downward!" (LOL)

It's the wonderful thing about hair farming. No two days are the same, and we discover new things as it grows. Congratulations on having joined the Ponytail Club. I still have another 6 to 8 months to go. As your wife says, get used to it! That's what I find about wives. If we're sure of ourselves, they'll go along.
I got the same question from my wife a couple of weeks ago when I did some gardening on a hot day and I had to wet my head. I slicked my wet hair back and went to get my wife from the train. I assured her that no scissors approached my head, and that my curls would return once it gets dry.
Keep it growin' 'n' flowin'...
Anthony

My blog
Hi!
Self conscious - of course, but it's a great feeling to wear a ponytail in public for the first time. Making your mark on the world.
Enjoy!
Hey Fitz, that's awesome! I too have recently started sporting the ponytail at work, and have to admit I am also self-conscious about it, although I can't pinpoint why. I think I'm still struggling to change my perception that my hair wont stay perfectly in place (like when it was short and pasted with gel). Usually halfway through the day I start to get the side stragglers that pop out of the tail, which really annoys me. I'm sure that will go away in time, so I'll just continue to try it out until then!
