As of the last few weeks, everyday marks the longest my hair has ever been. Currently I have about 4.5" on top, 3.5" on the sides, and 2.5" around the neckline. I'm growing out from a traditional men's tapered cut. Though its still quite short, that is a pretty cool feeling.
I've found some products that keep it under control, and depending on how often I wash, I can decide how much or how little curl I want. Overall I am pretty happy with how its turning out. Maybe figuring all this out now will help prevent the coming awkward stages from being so bad.
Hi Steven,
Your hair is looking great! You definitely have some nice thick hair to work with! You just have to get used to your hair being longer than it's ever been. If it starts bothering you, just let it grow and ignore the awkwardness.
Shampoos usually tend to straighten hair somewhat. Some conditioners will also do this. Your hair may straighten out some with added length as well. But I do know your hair will look really good when it gets longer. Please be well my friend!
Ted
Ted,
Thanks again. You always have such nice things to say. That, I think, is a sign of good character.
As for the hair, yes, it is thick. I have always been told I had a "great head of hair" and always had some length, never buzzed. On a personal note, as a single guy who was always attracted to women a bit older than myself, having really thick hair went over well with the more "mature" ladies. It certainly isn't something my wife complains about.( >_^)
I find that shampoo and condition helps to straighten it out but I need to put some product in right away. If I let it air dry, my freshly clean hair will curl up into a giant wavy fluff... which I quite like on the weekends. After a day or two it calms down.
So far, I am having fun with the whole journey.

Hi Steven,
Thanks so much for the very nice compliments! I must say with your looks I wouldn't understand why any lady wouldn't be attracted to you!
There's nothing wrong with wavy hair! I think maybe some of your waves will straighten out with added length. Glad to hear you're having fun on the journey! Please be well my friend!
Ted
I think your hair looks cool !
EDM, thanks. I am finding I have a few different options at the moment. My favorite is just to let it air-dry into a giant wavy puff. If I didn't have to go to work everyday I would probably wear it that way. Perhaps this weekend!
The air-dry no, products look, for the weekend!
I like it Steven! :) Great weekend to you!
Ted
Thanks Ted. As I live in Japan, the weekend is already here. Woot!
Looks awesome! You have really thick, nice hair. It's going to look amazing long.
Steve,
Thanks very much. I definitely have thick hair, and with my 31st birthday just around the corner, still no signs of that changing.
The men in my family who experience hair loss tend to begin in their early 20s, so I think it's safe to say I am in the clear.
My brother calls me lucky. I suppose he isn't exactly wrong.
Good progress so far and a nice "hair-type" to work with. Best of luck to you in attaining many more inches.
Justin~
Thank you, Justin.

Thanks very much. I appreciate all the kind support!
Hi Kaiju,
Congratulations on your update, and your hair is progressing very well indeed. You have great hair to work with, since it is nice and thick, and I look forward to your future progress.
Keep it growing,
David
Your hair looks great now and having a plan for the awkward stage does make it easier to handle. Your hair is super thick and will look fantastic once it is longer.
