Hey again, people! :)
So while slowly closing in on m 9th month of hair growth, I have decided to re-start a shorter journey of a beard growth nature!
Now, I am not 100% convinced I will stick with it, but feel I want to give it a serious shot at leat (a month or two) to see how it feels and looks like.
I know one thing for sure, I feel LESS good looking, and yet, a thousand times more manly with a beard! Not quite an easy choice, hehe :D
Anyways, I want to grow THIS shape of a beard, and would like to ask Oren, Bill and the other beard experets here, how should I achieve this look?
Notice in the video, the "triangle" shape of the bard. I want the chin area to be the longest, even if not quite a perfect point, which the jaw and cheecks area can be shorter.
Watch the vid, and please let me know how should one treat their beard in order to achieve this :)
P.S- I am a very facially hair dude, so I could probably grow a full beard in a month no problem at all! God knows these easter european genes are good for SOMETHING, if not for growing long hair quickly on my scalp! Hehe..
Thanks in advance,
Raul.
It would be nice to see your 9-month hair, as your avatar shows you closely buzzed.
You seem to have a good face for beard and moustache growth, and you should be able to pull it off. I have good head hair but not good beard growth. I once tried it and it was so itchy after about three weeks that I shaved it. My head hair is another matter - nearly 8 months and still determined.
My own impression of a beard was spiders' webs on my face, but perhaps I didn't persevere long enough. I'm sure those who have real beards could give good advice to control the itching by proper care.
Good luck with everything, and enjoy life!

Just quit shaving. Your beard will all grow at about the same speed. When its hairs have gotten as long as the longest strands that you want, then trim the others back to the length you want them to have. Pretty simple, really.
Unlike with your mane, you can see all of your beard hairs, and they all mostly hang straight down. This makes trimming them much easier to do than doing a haircut on your mane is.
Blending the top of your beard and your mane in the sideburns area is the trickiest part. This hair can stick out more than you might want, if you don't trim it a bit shorter than the beard hairs around your chin. The wiriness of the two types of hair may differ, and to make both kinds of hair protrude the same distance from your skin may require you trim the individual strands in each group at different lengths.
You also have to decide what to do with your mustache. When it grows out, you will see what hair you have to work with there. You may want it short enough that it doesn't get food all over it or get its hairs stuck between your teeth when you eat.
Also, if you go for really long, you'll likely find that some areas of your beard will produce hair strands with a longer terminal length than other areas do. In front of your ears and over your mouth you may get shorter hairs. The longest hairs are likely to be rooted underneath your chin. Hairs higher up (i.e., on the jaw) may attain an in-between length.
This is why you want to just let it all grow out at first. Doing that will show you what you will have to work with.
Oh, the itching will cease after about three weeks. You just have to tough that out.
Happy growing!
Bill
I grew a beard back in the 1980s, the main problem I had was keeping it clean. Being near the mouth meant it was hard to keep
clean.
Other than that I loved having a beard. I also loved not having
a razor scraping against the skin every day.
One of the nice things about having a beard is it grows in fast.
If you screw up trimming it you can shave it off and it will grow
back quickly. And beards go very nicely with long hair.
Also when I was out mountain climbing it was nice to not have
to worry about shaving.
I too have no problem with growing a beard. For years I kept shaving it off after the itching drove me crazy. I finally handled the first few weeks of itching by having a full knee replacement. I was doped up on pain meds for several weeks and I didn't care about the itching. I don't recommend this however. Trimming the beard is exactly as Bill described. Just let it grow out and shape as desired
I should comment on "shaping as desired". If you don't like the shape of your head, you can soften the features you don't like by shaping your beard to reflect the shape you want. A small or large chin, a long neck, a head that is wider up top than down below... All of these can be made practically unnoticeable if your beard is trimmed to give your head the shape you want.
Of course, you have to have a medium or longer length beard to to this well. You can't hide a diminutive chin under hairs that are 1/8 of an inch long.

Hi Raul,
I definitely had to comment on this point! Normally, I keep my facial hair to a very short stubble length, similar to your current avatar picture. I feel like this makes me look the best, but a larger "actual" beard makes me FEEL the best. So I definitely know what you are talking about.
I do think that right now it is very trendy for young guys to grow facial hair longer than the stubble length so it feels less awkward to have it. This is probably just a USA trend because I don't see as many Europeans with longer beards. Then again, who cares about trends, right?
Good luck with your beard growing.

Thank you for the great, infrmative answers, everybody! =)
I am still struggling with defining that jawline properly, but I will try to take some pictures for you all and show you my results after about a week of beard growing.
And remember, I am a rather hairy dude ;)
So here's what I've got going on here after a week!
Notice I DID start with a slight goatee, thus the bunch of hair right on my chin and over my lips are a bit thicker than the rest.
I also find that the mustache area usually grows alot faster than any other area, so that is ony I indend on keeping carefully trimmed (hate the idea of hair going lower than my lip, or in my mouth! yuck!).
I tried applying the two fingers above adams appale rule for the jawline, but it's still very sketchy and I am not pleased with it at all.
Let me know what you think :)
blablabla

Thank you, buddy!
Raul,
I have followed your long hair growing updates and other updates and videos for years. I always thought you should be bearded. I am glad to see in your 5/11 update that you are growing your beard and looking for advice.
We are meant to bearded and not clean shaven. Shaving is a waste of time. You have too much beard to shave. Long head hair and a beard compliment a man's hairiness and is the ultimate in masculinity.
Secondly, a long haired man should be bearded so as not to be confused with a female from the back and sides.
you look equally as handsome with and without a beard.
Wow, that was really nice to hear, thanks man!
I have just shot a new video and am uploading it as we speak, will make sure to post it here and would love to hear you and everybody elses opinions :)
