Hey, I stumbled on this browsing the other day and decided I would post. I am 20 and just finished my second year of college and presently my hair is upper back length and even as I didn't like layers and trimmed them out a while back. I started growing my junior year of high school finally, but wanted to grow it out for a long time before that. My hair is quite bushy and so I don't wear it lose often, though I like it better back anyway. I generally wear it braided as I have found that to be better for my hair and controls it better than a ponytail. I am planning to keep it growing and plan to get it as long as I can; a waist length braid would be awesome, but that's a long way off. Any way hello and good luck with your growing.

Your hair looks great! Trust me, thicker is better. We're around the same age and my hair is really thick, too. I usually do a segmented ponytail (several hair ties) to keep it in check.

Thanks for the compliments! I certainly do plan to keep growing. Here is a pic I took with my hair down after being braided a few days. The thickness made it a pain to grow out and now my ponytail is absolutely huge and uncontrollable, but the braid does look cool I think.

It is kind of wavy, but in the pic its from not washing for a few days and having it braided the whole time. If I ever have it loose its when its like that and somewhat tamped down.

Welcome to the board! I must say you have some wonderful thick hair with a great color! I have hair which is somewhat thick and unruly also. However, I like to mostly wear mine down. Layers do help with thick hair, but make it hard to braid and do pony tails. But you are doing a great job growing that's for sure! Please keep us updated and be well my friend!

You have the thickest hair I have ever seen. I am amazed. You should be able to reach waist length in maybe 2 years. Hopefully you won't get hair tension headaches at that length. (Long thick heavy hair can sometimes cause this.)

From what I see in the loose hair image (post 313743) your hair appears to be at the bottom of your shoulder blades right now. Depending on height, waist length does look reachable in 2 years. I am guessing you are maybe 5'8" tall. (If you are really tall, the length needed to reach your waist increases.)
With such thick hair, a ponytail is probably difficult, making a braid the best choice. Hopefully tangles aren't too much of an issue for you.

Broke down and tied it back after not too long, loose is just too much. Also hoping I can get some actual facial hair in the next couple years and lose the baby face, as I think a beard would go nice with long hair, plus it might help people actually come closet to thinking I am 20 and not 12.

think it a bit of a nuisance but as one whose hair is getting
thinner and thinner your hair is to die for.

Growing a beard is a great idea, Josh W. There are some beard groups on Facebook. You may want to check them out.

I agree that a beard would go well with your long hair. As someone who also has a thick head of hair be thankful for it as hair does thin with age and if you had very thick hair now then when you hit 40 (if you don't get Male Pattern Baldness happening) you will still have a reasonably thick head of hair. Your hair is a marvellous thickness and may take all day to dry off but it is worth it.
