Here's just over 8 months' growth.
My head is tipping a little bit forward, raising my hair from my collar. Normally, the ends are about an inch below my vertebra prominens (C7) - that big lump where the neck meets the upper back.
It's still very awkward stage, and I'm just looking forward to the day I can get all my back and side hair into a ponytail, even if the front bang takes so much longer to get anywhere.
As so many have found with this forum, the encouragements far outweigh any frustration, and help us awkward-stagers to persevere and "get there".
If 18 months is the minimum, I'm almost half way!

It takes as long as it takes to "get there". I understand how it feels waiting for that moment when your hair is long enough... it takes a lot of patience and endurance... hang in there.
Thanks for the kind word. Fear not, I'm patient and will be persevering. I always appreciate the little signs of progress, but there are no short cuts (pun intended).
I'm lucky at my age to have a bit of thickness and fast growth.
Onwards and downwards, growin' and flowin'...

You are lucky, Anthony. A lot of men have significant hair loss - thus all the shaved heads I see around here... I've struggled in this later in life process due to my thinning hair, but I've kept going.
Let me just encourage you... at about the 15 month mark you will suddenly turn a corner and it will be quite an exciting moment - and then, from there on you will enjoy the awareness that you've made it past that awful awkward stage.
I am marking my 58th birthday this weekend first... then, I am marking 18 months of hair growth by the middle of June, and believe me, I am already celebrating!

Thanks for the encouragement. I am very lucky, though growth on the top of my head is slower and thinner. I have only lost a very small amount of hair from the temples.
The thick part is quite amazing, a pleasure to touch, run my fingers through and comb. I wouldn't be surprised to be ponytailing the back and sides after only 15 months. The tips of the side hairs are only about one inch from the ponytail point. I would need more than 3 inches more - call that 5 to 6 months at my rate.
I might seem "obsessive" about ponytailing, but I think I will only wear my hair loose at home for practical reasons. We'll see how it goes. It would be a nice Christmas present!

I will chime in with others and say, "You are blessed with thick and great-looking hair for a man of our age."
Let's hope the thickness you have now continues onward and downward! Sometimes at our age it just doesn't; it thins out before it gets as far from your scalp as you'd like. (Hey, that's me.) Other guys just keep growing the hair!
Despite the photos of loose hair that guys post when showing off their hair on MLHH, most of us probably wear our hair restrained in some way more often than not. So let's hope you get your thick tail! If you don't though, there are "practical" ways to otherwise celebrate your long hair. My hair never looked like a damn with a ponytail even when it was longer. A bandanna is what works for me. Other guys may go for hats. Or you can put yucky gunk on it. [wink - yeah, that's my thought about that, but the point is what one guy likes another may not.] You just have to go with what you feel looks right on you.
Your hair looks really great up top and up front, which is what people mostly see. When that's the case, few are going to care or notice much what goes on elsewhere.
Hey, if you're a good boy this summer, Santa had better bring you that ponytail!

Awesome, 8 months already?! Congrats on getting this far Anthony. Not sure if you have warm months in your part of the world, but last summer for me (at the same mark 8/9 months) was a new experience because of the temperature!

Thanks, Tommy. I'm a rather determined kind of person, especially when I discovered the meaning of short hair for the powerful of this world!
Indeed, when it gets hot, hair does make a difference. I tie up the back (sides are still too short) and when I get too sweaty and rinse my head under a cold shower. July and August are going to be interesting, with a wife who will say "You only have to cut it". I'm sticking it out!
I have one advantage, not caring what others think of my hair and I don't have to hold down a job in the shorthaired world. France is tolerant about individual diversity. I'm very lucky.

Your hairs color and body are excellent and it will continue to grow, not only in length, but in luxuriousness. Expect a thick, full tail when you do get to that point.
Hi Anthony,
You have a really nice head of hair to work with, very thick & full, and a waviness to it that will only be an asset as it gets longer and longer (even if temporarily it may look a bit awkward at times).
I just met up with an old friend of mine that I hadn't seen in over 20 years. He and his wife (whom I've known even longer than the husband) were close friends and co-workers when I lived back in New York, from '84 - '87. Anyway, he has a ponytail now, too -- we even got a kick out of seeing who's hair is longer now (mine won 1st place, by the way - LOL)!!
Anyway, it's great to know that us older guys aren't afraid to grow out our locks -- even when our hair color has turned quite a bit grayer, and/or our locks are a bit thinner than when we in our youth!
Take care, and keep it growing!

Hi Anthony,
Thanks for the very nice update! Your hair is looking really good for only 8 months! I think that darn C7 gets everybody because the hair has to grow over it. Once it passes that point, the hair can fall freely.
Your hair with its nice color and texture is just going to get better with more length. The waves add nice movement to it, however you may lose some of those as the hair gains added weight. I must say I am following your progress with great interest! I believe you will look awesome with long hair! Please keep us updated and be well my friend!
Ted
Sorry for the delayed reply.
Your hair looks exponentially better all along, keep growing and take care.
