Hey guys,
Sorry I've been absent for a while. Life's been kind of hectic lately as my responsibilities have taken a lot of my time and energy. I've been lurking though and have been really impressed by all the awesome updates. You're all doing great and it's wonderful to see the progress!
I'm carrying on with the regular trimming. I'm not getting it cut as often as Sunsailing but still quite regularly. I'm hoping to gradually gain more length while maintaining the ends. I know with my fine hair that I can't just leave it but I'm holding out hope that I might at least get closer to my record length eventually. I'm probably trimming about half of the new growth that occurs.
Here's how my hair looks currently:
Wow, looking great! I cannot express how much I love the look of those half-braids (or whatever they may be called) it reminds me of vikings (Whether they did that tho thier hair I do not know) I cannot wait until my hair is long enough to do that myself
Thanks! Yeah, I really love the halfup braid too. It's my favorite style as the high braid keeps the hair out of my face but it still feels like wearing it loose.
Hi Jason,
Yes its been a while since we've seen an update from you so whenever one comes around its always a treat :)Like you I suffer the thrills and spills of having fine, straight hair. However that type of hair braids well as your pics prove and its great your keeping the ends nice.I took a different direction where I never trim my hair at all and haven't had any professional work done since 2005.Thankfully I don't really get split ends but I sure would like more volume.I'm also still loving the henna color so I deem that as a successful experiment:)I enjoy doing the touch ups every two months or so.Cheers
Mârk
Hey Mark,
The henna routine sure has been working well for you. It's probably helped with not having split ends.
Oh to have coarse hair! But we make the best of what we have and enjoy and appreciate it.
Jason
Hi Jason,
I would have to agree as I believe the henna is doing more positive for my hair than just changing the color.I find the process of redoing the henna every couple of months very therapeutic:) I've never once regretted doing it.Cheers
Mârk
Looks good and certainly healthy and tidy - well worth sacrificing some length for that.
Thanks. I agree!
Hey Jason!
Good to see some more pictures of you, though I do get my updates on facebook :)
I love the way your hair looks right now, just the right length while still being relatively thick and nice at the bottom. Ends look really healthy to me!
You are going to have to teach me how to make that legloas braid some day, when my time is up for being able to do that! ;)
Hey Raul,
Thanks! I've finally come to peace with the fact that I need to regularly trim my fine hair. I'd like to get more length but if I have to keep it around this length to have healthy ends, I'm okay with that.
You'll love wearing the halfup braid! Do you know how to do a 3 strand braid? It just takes practice and soon your fingers will go on automatic. The halfup is just a little harder than braiding all your hair. You need to keep the small section separate from the rest. It's pretty easy after a few tries.
Jason
The 3 strand braid is what most girls wear here, so I can do that on ANOTHER PERSON to a rather satisfactory level, but I can't even imagine doing it on myself! That will take a while :D
Good thing I hope and plan to have my long hair for many years to come, and enough time to practice!
your hair is awesome...
I, too, love to see the high braid... I agree, it has that Viking look which has a highly masculine look.
Fitz
Thanks! Belated congrats on reaching the 18 month mark. It only gets better!
Hi Jason,
Your hair really does look excellent here. The ends have good thickness, so I think that your regime is working. I am sure that you will be able to achieve considerably more length while maintaining the thicker ends. Good luck with your future growth!
I have also been busy and not as active in my postings to the hyperboard lately. In fact, right now, I am in the USA, and met up with Tammy again for the first time in over 4 years. We remain good friends, and just completed a two day bus tour of NYC yesterday. This was the first time I have ever seen NYC, and it was quite the amazing eye opener, and an experience not to be missed. I plan to return to Canada late this week.
Take care, and please stay in touch.
David
Hi David,
Thanks. I do feel pretty positive about my current routine.
I'm happy that you and Tammy have maintained a friendship and were able to spend some time together in person. I've been to NYC a few times. It is impressive. A fun place to visit on occasion but I wouldn't want to live there!
Hopefully we can connect again on one of your trips to the US.
Best,
Jason
Thanks, Jason, I think your hair looks absolutely TERRIFIC!!!
I often think about trimming my hair back to around your current length; but for now, am deciding to continue to enjoy the experience of terminal length (AKA the "Fairytale ends" look - LOL)....
Long Lox 4ever,
Ken
Thanks Ken.
I can see the merits of both approaches. Your ends have always looked in good shape from what I've seen. My ends got so ratty on my attempt for terminal length that I realized I had to try a different approach.
I'll be patient and see what I get but if I have to keep it around this length to have nice ends, that's okay too!
Best,
Jason
Your hair is amazing, Jason. You're an inspiration!
Likewise! It's been a joy to witness your journey and the outstanding results you've achieved.
Thanks!
Hi Jason,
Thanks for posting these inspirational pics! As usual, your hair is just looking wonderful! I love the color and waves big time! I believe you will be able to get more length using the trimming method. Please keep it up and stay well my friend!
Ted
Hi again Jason,
I am wondering if it took you a long time to grow your hair past shoulder length. It seems like my hair is just not growing past the back of the neck "hump". I am thinking about getting the back of my hair trimmed straight across. Maybe it will help me start fresh and see what happens. Did you just let your hair grow without trims at that length? Thanks for your reply!
Ted
Hi Ted,
I kept getting the back cut until I had achieved all one length. I then would only trim about once a year as it all grew.
I know what you mean about that hump when it gets caught on the shoulder. Eventually it will get long enough that it will stay behind your shoulders more of the time and will look longer all of a sudden.
You're doing great. It just takes time!
Jason
Hi Jason,
Thanks a bunch for your reply! Maybe I can just trim of about an inch and see what that looks like. I really don't like the way my ends look and feel like. I suspec I am still growing out some layers. I just need to start trimming a little bit each couple of months. May have to sacrifice some growth. I want hair like yours man!
Ted
Your hair is as beautiful as ever, and so well looked after for your active life. I would be glad to have your length! Patience (I tell myself)...

Thanks Anthony.
I can just imagine how glorious your hair will look as you near mid-back! It's a long journey for sure but each step is to be savored. Sometimes the longer we wait for something, the sweeter it is. I achieved reasonably long hair by my mid-thirties. Your "becoming" will be achieved later in life but may give you even more of a sense of accomplishment.
Jason
Thanks, Jason, for the kind words.
I will be thinking of you as I go to a big sailing boat gathering in Brittany - more than 70 boats. There will be quite a lot of wind and unsettled weather. I'll try to keep my hair as dry as possible with my hooded raincoat that goes well over my life-jacket.
At 9 months (I can say so now) the back of my hair is past my C7 vertebra with my head upright and not tipping back. I can touch the tips of my side hairs with my tongue. All my hair flops around as I move my head. All these are signs. I can make an educated guess that I might be just out of the awkward stage by Christmas (be able to tie up everything except the front and top hair through a hair band). My target is about your length, long enough to be long but not so long as it makes life difficult for boating, cycling and all the other things I do.
It's one thing you can't hurry, the opposite of the way the modern world works (I want **** and want it yesterday!). Long hair is earned by patience and care.
It's a sense of achievement, and also our ability to be ourselves and resist the pressure from society to conform to the Matrix.

Your hair is in excellent condition. The length that you lose due to the regular trimming, from my point of view, is worth it.
Your hair is definitly an inspiration to me seeing as how we have a similiar hair type.
Thanks, I'm honored that I can serve as an inspiration.
I agree about the trimming. I don't miss those velcro ends!
Lookin' great Jason, I also love that Viking look...so cool..
Take Care, The Spaf Man
Thank you! It's great to have you as part of our community as well.
Hi Jason,
I just saw your latest pics and WOW, am I impressed and jealous. Your braid is just awesome. If I can get mine to look like yours I would be completely satisfied. I guess it will be a year or two before mine is that long. I love the fullness it has. It must feel fabulous against your skin.
white mane
Thanks white mane. I'm glad to hear that you plan on growing to this length. Your mane will only look more amazing the longer it gets!
