Now that my mane and beard have turned white, I wonder if any of you with white hair have found what best enhances the look of white hair. My mane is really fine with mostly straight hair strands, and my beard is very coarse and wavy and curly.

Quite a few grey/white haired people find the SheaMoisture line of products are great for their hair. This line leaves out a lot of the harmful chemicals, which seems to benefit white/grey hair.
Hi Bill,
Interesting that you should ask this question, as my own hair is getting whiter and whiter... (and I don't honestly know the answer myself!)
I have been so happy with the results of using a small amount of olive oil on the lower half of my mane, however, that I don't foresee myself changing out of this habit in the future, regardless of however white my mane becomes.
But for me, it's more of a texture thing (although olive oil does add a subtle yet pleasing bit of "shine" to my hair afterward): my mane actually feels softer and more luxuriant whenever I massage approximately a coin-sized amount of the oil into my ends and lower portion of my hair. It adds moisture & "body" to the hair -- as long as I don't add so much oil as to make it greasy.
I've found that the ideal timing for adding any beneficial oil (meaning, also Kukui nut oil, pure almond oil, or Jojoba oil are other oils I've tried and had success with; but the olive being the easiest to find and fairly cheap & very available, it's become my #1), is immediately after my shampooing & conditioning days, which is usually about once or twice per week for me. It's kind of like a wonderful "hair pampering" ritual, ending my shampoo day ordeal with incorporating the oil into the ends of my hair to soften, moisturize, and help prevent future split ends. Running a comb through the full length of the hair also is helpful, in that it then distributes the oil further up the hair shaft (without getting the hair nearest to the scalp greasy).
The finger-combing process, then also twisting and twirling (sounds a bit "gay", doesn't it? - LOL) I find to be quite relaxing -- as well as it helps speed up the natural air-drying process (I hardly ever use a blow-dryer).
I'll let you know if I find any other type of hair product that works for me... Oh! I almost forgot: Eve bought a product for me at Sophora (downtown SF on Powell near Market), called "HAIR MILK" -- it's made by a company called, "Carol's Daughter" The original formula has a nice lemon grass fragrance; but you can also get this same product in fragrance-free as well... it comes in a very small bottle, but it lasts a long long time! (I apply it in the same way as if I'm using the olive oil)
I hope that info helps!

Yes, I like the "Hair Milk" very much! But I still prefer the olive oil (and also the Kukui nut oil; but that's a bit harder to find, and more expensive), for some reason the 100% pure oils are still my favorite. I even put a small drop of Lavender oil in with the olive, as that gives it a very clean-smelling fragrance to me (rather than my hair smelling like a pizza - LOL)....
The next time I meet up with you & Larry over in Noe Valley or the Castro, I'll bring my extra bottle of Hair Milk to you, which you are welcome to just have in order to give it a try. If you end up liking it, just keep and enjoy! But if not to your liking, just give it back to me, as I use it at home pretty regularly. I have a 2nd bottle as a back-up, so no problem!
(Now how often do you see THIS type of conversation here at MLHH? I can't make this kind of offer to just "anybody", so many people live so physically far away - LOL!)

Sounds good!
