It's now more than 9 months. Here's one of those dreadful back-of-the-head-to-the-bathroom-mirror photo jobs. I'll get my wife to do the photographing once I really "get there".
All the same, I'm getting some decent length on the back. My sides are only about half an inch from the ponytail point.

Hair looks nice, thick and vivid, Anthony! Congrats on making it through the first 9 months! :)
Many thanks, Raul,
Here's to the next 9 months. I have grown about 6 inches in that time. In theory, that would give me a foot in only 18 months. That's a great encouragement. Already, my wife finds that my sides are less awkward!

Around 6 inches in 9 months is aboslutely insane, my friend!
If the average would be 4.5 inches in that same time frame, then I would probably be getting about 3.5 inches in the time you grow 6... good genes right there!
Yes!! Looking great buddy, I am not far behind you about a month, I eagerly await the ponytail as well. When do you think you will get a small tail without the front in?
Many thanks. I can already get the back hair into a decent little tail, which I do to keep the back of my neck cool in hot weather. I tuck the sides as best I can behind my ears, because they are yet too short for the ponytail. The front like when I had short hair but before I started buzzing. Like that it still looks a mess but it easier to live with when it gets hot.
It seems reasonable to think that I could get a back and sides ponytail by about Christmas, if I want the sides to stay tied up and not keep pulling out. I seem to get about 3/4 inch of growth per month. I am very lucky.

Hi Anthony,
This is a wonderful update! I just love the color and shininess of your hair! I believe you are meant to have long hair! Are you going to start trimming the back to let the front catch up? Congrats on reaching the 9 month milestone my friend! Hope you're having much fun sailing! Be well!
Ted
Are you going to start trimming the back to let the front catch up?

Thanks, Ted, for the encouraging words. I don't think I will do any trimming until my shortest hairs are down my back - even if the effect is layered. Perhaps it is psychological, but trimming at my present stage would keep me in the awkward stage for another one or two years. I prefer layered long hair, and then I'll start trimming as it gets to mid-back level - then equalizing will be there, not around my neck.
My priority is to get enough length to be able to tie back everything except the front within a few months, and the front when it's long enough. Then I won't be so afraid of the scissors, just as long as I find the right hairdresser (perhaps my wife's longhair man in Rouen).
Yours looks great, and growing beautifully.

Hi Anthony,
First of all, I thank you kindly for the very nice compliments! I do believe you have the right idea. Layered long hair does look quite nice. I think your naturally grown out hair will look just great! Especially with the nice color you have! I definitely look forward to seeing your hair's progress! I keep wanting to get my ends trimmed but don't want to lose the length. Kind of a sacrifice.
Ted
Hi Anthony, you are coming along nicely. I really admire your commitment to growing long hair.
Bruce
Your hair is coming along very nicely, Anthony. You've jumped in to this commitment to growing your hair with all you've got and soon it will pay off. I don't know if you ever falter along the way - I did - a lot - but I am glad I kept going - now that my hair is touching my shoulders in the back - pony tails are easy now - and I feel good about the way I look. So, I do hope you'll hang in there - another 3-6 months and you will be absolutely amazed!

I have just published a little article on my blog about being interviewed by a journalist during the sailing gathering in Brittany.

Looking good so far, keep at it [grin]
Hi Anthony, I can definitely tell your hair is growing abnormally fast! Your progress each month is incredible. If your really looking to stay cool you could 2 mini-tails, one on top and the other in the back :)
I've done this with my little girl, she's 18 months old and her hair is definitely in an awkward stage!

I bought a simple black hair claw today and have been experimenting with it. You arrange a ponytail, not too low, and twist it around and point the ends upwards. The claw holds it all up. I haven't seen many men use this device like women do, but it does keep the hair off the back of the neck when it gets really hot. It also grabs some of the hair that is still too short to get into a ponytail.
It's strange how we are all so different, and I grow hair at 55 like when I was 20! It's not impossible that I will get to my 18 month "made it" point at 15 months, which will be Christmas. My wife has every interest in NOT buying me a pair of scissors!!!
It will be simple ponytails to begin with - and then as I get to mid-back, I would like to learn some nice bun styles.
