I'd mentioned recently that I had started a new job. Turns out I'm not the only longhair working there. Two of the workers on the production machines have long dreadlocks (one is about waist-length, the other one I'm not sure about as I've never seen his unbound). There's a forklift driver with a short ponytail (I'd guess the length of the tail at about 6"). And one of the other maintenance workers has a ponytail of undetermined length (undetermined as he always has it tucked up under a baseball cap).

A true long haired underground movement, I like it, JSFrodo! :D
Sounds as if you are in great company!
This is very good news indeed Frodo! Very happy to hear it! You have found your place I believe.
Ted
Sounds good. I know you were a bit worried about where you would find your next job (government contract came to an end, if I remember it right?). What is it you are doing now?
Alun
Working as a maintenance electrician at a factory making cardboard boxes.
It now occurs to me I didn't really know what you did before except that you were some kind of government contractor and were in some kind of technical role.
As I mentioned before, I am a patent agent, working for a law firm, although my adversaries (patent examiners) are government employees. I am an electrical engineer as well. You actually have to have a bachelors in a technical subject to be allowed to take the test in patent law, although there is an exception for those who have passed the fundamentals of engineering test. Again, I believe I have been through all that before.
Good deal! I hope all goes well with the new job...
All the best.... The Spaf Man
Hi JS,
Sounds like your new place of employment is working out well for you and cool that there appears to be a decent amount of longhairs around too!Like you, last fall I had to seek new employment after getting a surprise layoff just before Labor Day weekend.I had been with the company for 19 1/2 years at that time so go figure.Fortunately my new employer doesn't appear to care about my longhair but I do cover it up at work for safety and covenience as it was my decision.Still it's refreshing to hear that guys can have longhair and get jobs regardless of that fact.Cheers

It's good that the new job is working out.
I've been with the same company now for 28 years. Last year the owner of the company died at the age of 97, I was nervous about what the future held. Especially with long hair and being that my age is 59. well so far it has worked out well, his daughter is running the company and things are going well. No complaints about the hair (I almost always wear it loose. No complaints about what I wear. No complaints about my cut off shorts. So all is good.
At this company, three of us have long hair, including one warehouse worker and the fork lift driver.
