I wondering whether there are men like me who regulary wear a
hairnet. It all started when my mother suggested wearing a net
after i washed my hair.I liked the way it was held in place and
her suggestion that i should wear a hairnet to bed.
Now many year later I wear a fine hairnet all the time-I am not
self concious anymore
Hi Peter,
I too regularly wear a net - especially to bed. I have very fine hair which I
spend quite a bit of time blow drying and looks hideous in the morning if I
don't hold it in place.
The best thing is - my girlfriend loves it & has now encouraged me to try
other things with my hair.
What kind of nets do you use ?
Max.
Hi Max
I am glag to find another hairnet wearer
Do you wear a hairnet in public?
I also have fine hair - istead of useing hair spray I wear
a very fine hairnet everyday
Sometimes people notice but it does not worry me
Generally on saturday morning i am more bold -- I wash my
hair slip on a heavier net and do the supermarket shopping
Tell me more about your expirences with hair nets
peter
Hi Peter,
I haven't been as bold as to out in public yet - but mostly just use nets (of various kinds) for sleeping and styling.
I now have a hood dryer at home - and will usually wear a net to dry under the hood - which I must prefer to blow drying. My girlfirend wears a net to bed - and to be honest it's her thats done a lot of the encouraging so far.
Do you use a net for styling as well ?
I'm considering trying some rollers soon - and am keen to buy a setting net to cover them.
I have had nets put on my in salons which I quite enjoyed.
Max
Hi Max:
Many of us really enjoy seeing under the dryer scenes, especially those where a heavy triangle net is used to secure the rollers. If you know of any sites where pictures are available, please post a note here.
Thanks
John
If you have a "Sally's Beauty Supply Store" near you try there they have some excellent extra large cotton triangle setting nets that cover sets very well (even using large rollers)
Edward
I wasnt sure what your question was but you can buy nets at Sally
Beauty Supply, i havent found any of the real heavy nets but they do
carry a respectable triangle cotton net that will last quite awhile
John
I have long hair that i like to wwear in a pony tail or a bun
When i put it up in a bun i secure it with pins and then keep
it tidy with a bun net
My girlfriend put my hair up in a bun a couple of months ago
but did not tell me that i was also wwearing a hair net-- i
was notaware until we returned from a date
Now i would not put my hair up without a bun net
Hi Max
Iam sure your girlfriend could help you with a fine net to wear
in public -- I am sure you will enjoy it
I have had my hair set manny times in a salon as well as putting
it up in rollers myself --- a setting net is essential
I too enjoy sitting under the dryer particularly a the salon
looking at myself in the mirror in rollers and a setting net
I also enjoy setting my hair myself and letting it dry naturally
but then i have to spend most of the day in rollers
The only way to keep a set is to wear a heavier net to sleep
peter
Hi peter
Most of the salons in my area use the newer dryers so they dont use
nets & ear coverings any more.
I must say i really enjoyed having my hair done the 'old fashioned
way'. I can still remember seeing myself under one of the all chrome
dryers before they changed to the plastic bubble dryers. Oh Well!!
Hi Jess,
Have you ever come across a site that has pictures of salon dryers in use? There are some sites that feature sets, perms and shampoos, but there are no salon or soft bonnet dryer shots.
Hi Emeric
I know, it is very frustrating, www/geocities/hotsprings/4537 has
some wonderful shots but NO dryer pictures. If you have checked out
the Virtual Salon, the also have none. I have noticed several others
that have signed the guest book and asked for dryer scenes.
Its always nice to talk to others that have a similiar interest.
Jess
Hi
I'm with you lot - I'd really love to see some 'under the dryer' shots and love the soft hood as well as older salon dryers with the clear plastic forming the bottom part of the dryer.
Although I have two such dryers at home - can anyone out there oblige with picture of others ???
Hi guys
I would love to see pics of gals under the dryer, but no one else seems interested. The Virtual Salon had a pic of a real young Catherine Denueve under a dryer that was wonderful, but they removed
it a couple of days ago!
I just don't get it, all kinds of roller & perm shots but none with
dryers!
If anyone has a suggestion, please post it here
John
It seems we've uncovered a gap in the historical record. Is it possible that there are really so few images of the older salon dryers left? They were the basis for much of the styling that went on for years.
Emeric
I hope that is not the case, there must be some professional publications from the 1940 - 1960 period that would include photographs of the equipment and processes employed. I have not
been able to travel to a large library to research this possibility
but that may be an excellent resource. I appreciate hearing from others that share the same interest, please stay in touch.
Regards
John
I've not seen much source material on either soft or hard dryers in the literature. Strangely enough there is a far better record of the machine perm than of the dryer which is a much more recent phenomenon.
Old cosmetology texts are an obvious prospect but they usually have poor illustrations and none of dryers. Advertising art is a possibility but I haven't come across anything worthy.
Emeric
I wonder if a large , metropolitan library would have back issues of
magazines that may have illustrated stories. I think i remember
seeing pictures of beauty parlors in my mothers Ladies's Home Journal or Good Housekeeping from the early fifties. Magazines of this type may be an excellent source, the problem would be finding the issue(s) that have the illustrations.
John
Hello Alan,
I also would love to see some under the dryer images but I have not
been able to find any yet. I imagine if someone could get some older
hairdo or profesional hairdreser magazines they would be filled with
them.
Somebody has to have acces to the older magazines!
george
Hi Emeric:
I think that there are quite a few of us that are anxious to find some
under the dryer scenes given the number of messages in this thread. I
have always been fascinated by the various types of dryers used over
the years and would like to find others interested in keeping this thread alive.
John
hi jess, if you have a photograph of the chrome dryer some of us would really like to see it
Sorry george, that dryer, unfortunately, was disposed of along with
other unwanted items when my mother left her home. It was a fixture in
her dressing room for many, many years.
Having read the date on this entry I hope it isn't a joke !! I too am a regular hairnet wearer & have been since my childhood. From the age of about 9 or 10 I used to have my hair set on rollers and wear a thick "slumber-net" to bed each night. Once my set had been combed out the next morning I then wore a "regular" hair-net over my hair to keep the set in place. To make sure that it could be seen that I was indeed wearing a hair-net my mum used to buy me black hairnets to wear although my hair was blond. When the other boys at my school saw me wearing my curly set hair in a net I came in for a lot of teasing but in time (as kids do) they got bored with it and accepted my wearing a hair-net every day as something quite normal. to this day I still sleep with my hair set on rollers secured with a "triangle setting net" and wear a "regular invisible" nylon hair-net of a darker shade than my (dyed) hair during the day.
