This is specifically for those few who want to leave the board because they somehow feel offended because of their religious beliefs.....
I say GET OVER IT! My goodness, how sensitive can some people be? If you're the one who brings up the topic of religion, then you should be man enough to accept the diverse views you'll get in the responses. If you can't handle a discussion and differing views, either a) don't bring up the topic or b) stay with a small group who shares your opinions and views 100%.
I personally stayed out of the discussion as to not offend anyone. I personally think the Bible is a load of conflicting BS and a bunch of fairy tales. I cannot understand how rational, normal thinking people can believe someone parted waters, or walked on water, or rose from the dead. It defies all the laws of science and nature. Some people would believe in Jack and the Beanstalk if it were in the Bible.
I don't believe there ever was a Jesus. If there had been, he'd surely have been in SOMEONE'S written and recorded history. Many cultures had extensive written histories, yet not one mentions this great man who had so many followers. And if there was this incredible flood that covered the planet, and Noah built an ark, why didn't any of the civilized cultures with written histories ever mention a flood? The Egyptians had very detailed written history, yet never mention anything about any of the Bible's stories.
Anyway...now that I'm sure I've offended a few people, I'll just say this....
If you can't handle the diverse viewpoints of a diverse community...that being this web community...then you don't belong anywhere but with a small group who believes only what you believe and says what you want to hear.
I personally didn't see anything that was so offensive that anyone would have just cause to complain about it and walk out. But that's their choice. And to them I say....SEE YA! Don't let the screendoor hit you in the azz on the way out!
Heck, even the people on the Buzzboard are more reasonable than that!
Keep it long, let it grow, and just RELAX! This is supposed to be a place for us to discuss hair and be amongst FRIENDS! This is NOT supposed to be a place that creates any stress or resentment.
I propose we stay off the topic of religion from now on. It's something that should be discussed at home and in the church and NOWHERE else when your in a diverse community with varying belief systems.
We longhairs are a vast minority as it is. We shouldn't be fighting amongst ourselves.
PEACE!
(he..he the only part of the post that won't provoke reaction!)
...I agree...In Life you have to live and/or work side by side
with ALL types of people who have EVERY kind of belief.
You just deal with it as it comes your way.
And sometimes you even learn/teach a thing or two.
Bravo!! Couldn't have said it better myself. Politics and religion
don't fare to well on a Long Hair message board. Let's get back to talking about hair, sex, drugs and rock 'n roll, the things we all like but are afraid to openly admit. he he.
yes exactly, especially considering the fact that such discussions are likely to be off the topic, a waste of bandwidth, and extremely devisive.
i don't mind at all, if people mention a belief that's diffrent that what i believe, like what happenes here alot but it's ok and not offensive, only think that bothers me is when someone PURPOSLY assualts someone elses beliefs and that's just not cool, yes my beliefs are diffrent than
Rokker's but i'd never insult him or ANYONE else on here about theres. Basically i do agree we need to lay off the relgious threds on here because all they do is start flame wars and cause problems, there are plenty of other boards to discuss stuff like this (especially on usenet)
so if we avoid stff like this i think the discussions would be nicer and more on topic :-)
Too much of our energy has been diverted into these petty spats regarding religion, when we should be united, focused on our true enemy: The Mullet.
C'mon people!

There is no evil greater than the mullet! Think about it. What's nastier? A buzzard, or a swan crossed with a buzzard?

I can see your point for sure, dude!
Rokker rules :-)
Dudes - what the hell is going on with some of you. A couple of guys feel ostracized from this board by certain statements made and what do some of you in this 'community' do?
Explain what you meant by your statements?
Emphasize that possibly made certain statements with a comical edge?
Agree to disagree and unite in your common interest (what could that be?..erm, um...don`t tell me, i know this one...D'oh!)?
No, all that would be much too hard. Much easier to write three to four paragraphs of pretentious intellectual drivel, giving friends and supporters of this board whose experience and knowledge (good or bad and colored with whatever opinions of their race, religion or political affiliation) is hard to find - a dry slap in the face as an excuse for a goodbye. you use the term 'community' very loosely i take it.
The arrogance of your statements makes me cringe. It is obvious to me you are experts in saying goodbye. You must find it difficult making friends for life - which is very sad.
Everyone reserves the right to get annoyed at statements made here; everyone reserves the right to leave if they feel they have no other option. However I feel everyone (choosing to leave, or making controversial statements to name but two examples) is entitled to a fair trial before we start pushing to the front of the crowd armed with rotten fruit and vegetables.
Ok - got it off my chest now...ahh! - Therapy. ;)
Im sure a few will be breaking their fingers to dissect and rebut my statements. Please understand I try to make them with the best intentions of all in mind.
I am not seeking the last word in this argument, however I hope I have got it.
Peace, love and business as usual.
Well said, man. As Jesus (whose existence is well-documented even in non-Christian, non-religious texts) said, "Let him who is without sin, cast the first stone."
And as I have said, "It's better to rule in Hell than serve in Heaven!"
Have a care, brother. It just may not work that way.
Try reading "Evidences that demand a veredict" by Josh McDowell, for example, and let's talk again about what is rational or not.
By the way, there are historical evidences in many cultures, such as babylonian e.g., of a really big flood.
Well, I thought this board was something else, which means I am not a regular reader or poster (I don't even intend to be one). I don't know who or what began this discussion about religion, but I just wanted to say this: if you research and look for the truth as I did you may (or not) agree with me that you need more faith to be cetic about Jesus and the bible than to believe them. In order to be a rational and logic person, you must believe them: the true (biblical) christianism does not mean you have to stop thinking, "au contraire", it makes you think and the evidences it is all true is there for you to see with your own eyes, unless, of course, you do not wish to know the truth and is just happy enough being where you are, wearing a mask of false rationality.
I hope I have not offended anyone, that wasn't my intention at all. I hope you all be trully happy and have significant discussions on this board. If anyone wish to talk to me, please e-mail me (rodrigoab@yahoo.com) because I do not intend coming back to this board (as it wasn't what I was looking for, like I already said).
Sincerely
Gary
>>Well, I thought this board was something else, which means I am not a regular reader or poster (I don't even intend to be one).
So why weigh in on an off topic thread? You are just adding to it.
>>I don't know who or what began this discussion about religion
This "discussion" started long before any of us were ever born.
>>I do not intend coming back to this board (as it wasn't what I was looking for, like I already said).
Then why clutter up the board with your off topic post? Hit and run.
(I don't bash people, that is not what this is, in case you are thinking this. Sometimes there are some really thoughtless posts like this one and this is when I have to let the poster know)
I am a Christian, and I accept that
a) the Bible is full of actual and apparent contradictions
b) everybody is entitled to his/her own opinion
So, although my viewpoint on matters of religion is different from many people on this board, I respect their opinions and hope that I can by encouragement on this board help others to achieve their goals.
I think this applies to 99% of the people who post messages here, which is why it is generally such a good and supportive community.
