At what point or length would you say hair becomes actually 'long' to you?
I would say, at the length John Travolta's hair was in Pulp Fiction is what I consider truly long hair--Not anything shorter.
This is a very subjective question, but to ME personally? Nothing less than shoulderblade length is truly 'long'.
Again, that is just me :) Right now, I would LOVE to have hair as 'short' as shoulder length, heh.
I would say hair becomes long when folks around you tell you that you need a haircut. That point varies between parents, relatives, etc.
If it was for my father then, whatever passes of 3 cm is already "too long" hahaha
My definition: when it is long in the front, minimum chin length, but ideally to the clavicle. (Mine is to the chin but not yet to the clavicle).

I never saw that movie, so don't know how long John Travolta's hair was there; but in answering your question, if you go the the Links section of this site, you'll find Bill Choisser's "On Being A Longhair", where I believe he covers that topic quite well.
It's really all relative. But for me personally, once my hair began to rest on my shoulders and kept blowing across my face, it meant that I either had to tie my bangs back into a half-tail, or wear a bandana or hat on my head -- that's when I finally felt it was "long!"

When you start being mistaken by a female, that is when your hair is long hahaha.
I got mistaken for someone's mom when I had short/medium hair and a chest pack. (To be fair, I was out skiing)
To me, Long hair Begins when all your hair goes just past shoulder length. Travolta's hair in that movie, for me is just medium length hair. I know a lot of younger men think that Any hair showing is medium, but that is because that is what they have seen all their lives. A Buzz cut is not short hair, it is No hair. The pompadour we see popular today is Short hair, it was favored in the early 60's by business types and many others. Medium length covers the ears. like the early Beatles. SJ
I haven't seen that movie so I can't comment on it. But for me , I'll consider my hair to be long when I reach my first objective, e.g. mid back length...which should be at end of year. But, at that point, it will still be "not long enough"!!!!

Hi Newbie Man,
In my opinion, "long" hair on a man would be at least mid-back length. Now my goal is at least aist length, but quickly changing to longer lengths if I can get there!
But I think anything longer than collar length would be considered "long" to the average person in society. I say the longer the better though!

It is a moving target. Ever since I started growing it as a teen to piss off my mom, it has been longer than "long" for me.
Upper back/well past shoulder for men, past mid-back for women. Very long would be waist (of pants) for men, tailbone for women.
Before I spent so much time on longhair forums, somewhat shorter than these measures.
"Long" to me is just as you defined it, Trolleypup, and certainly not less than past shoulder-length.
I think when you can take 50% of your hair and tail it, that would be long hair.

Inever saw Pulp Fiction, and it depends on the context. Amongst long hair forums, what is considered long is probably longer than most people would consider long.
I would say, as a general rule, is that hair long enough to tie is long. Very long, for me, would start somewhere aroubd waist.
It's all relative. I have only one close friend that has longer hair than me. Rarely do I come in contact will someone that even comes close to my length around town. (both men and women) But with belt length hair I only have medium length hair among people who have gone over 10 years without a hair cut.
