Today I went with my mother to the Hospital for doing some check-up exams and it was necessary because, she was close to the death because of 3 pulmonary edemas (All my father's fault, if they didn't went for that hike, this never happened).
When I step into Doc's Office with her on the wheelchair, he started looking at me kinda strange and asked me if I was some kind of hard rock fan or metalhead (I wasn't even wearing everything black), I said neither of those and them he asked "So, what's the catch with this hair if you aren't any of those?" (Hey, my hair isn't even all that long yet and he's asking something like this?) so I ended up saying nothing and averted the subject by asking about her exams.
When I was leaving the Office with my mother,I saw two girls from the other side staring at me in a very strange manner, so I was getting close to the parking lot for getting my mother back into my father's car (Where those girls were), I didn't heard all they said but, they started running (I know I'm not that beautiful, but hey I'm really looking to some kind of bad guy?)
And to finish, a gentleman saw me across the street when I was putting my mother in the car, he asked me if I happen participated in some kind of staging, I said no and asked him why and he said because I was looking like I had come out of some kind of 70's movie, I ended up getting it as a compliment, but my day was something very weird today.
I know it might not seem like something so important, but I thought it interesting to share with you all, first by the fact that people nowadays associate people with long hair automatically as metalheads or rockers, or some kind of degenerate, madmen or bad guys, maybe some of you around here have long hair because of musical taste (Not in my case, I always loved 70's disco and 80's music).
if I'm already having this kind of experience now and it isn't all that long yet, just imagine the kind of their reaction when it gets even more longer than this.
There is a lot of prejudice and preconceived notions about people who are different from the "normal" version... I find that I forget that I look different now that my hair is long. I catch a lot of people taking an extra long look at me and sometimes i wonder why they are staring at me - then I remember - oh, yeah, that's right - my hair is long now...
Hang in there and try not to be too freaked out about it...
Nah, I don't get those comments to the personal side you know, even for me sometimes like you said, I can't see myself yet on the ouside wearing long hair, years and years I was getting the same forced haircut so it will take some time for me to see myself with long hair, but on my inside, I've always been long haired.
if I depend on the crowd, I have plenty in my favor, not only you guys from the MLHH, but my friends and my grandmother are giving all the support I must say.
I've also forgot to say but, if all goes well, maybe they'll call my father at factory to do some work in an other place, 400km from here, and maybe he will stay there for seven months away from home, and to me it will be one of the greatest tests of responsibility that I will have, because he's thinking of taking my sister and my mother along with him, renting a house there and leave me here taking care of this house, and maybe even if successful, I'll take a nice vacation at home, without having him to claim it in my ear.
The other times I was left out at home, I didn't get to spend more than a month old.
One thing I have noticed...once your hair gets past mid-back, and it is more controllable, a lot of the problems recede. If you can put it in a neat ponytail or solid braid or bun, you step out of the prejudices people have about long/shaggy/unkempt hair.
I've always found the easiest answer to questions like this is the simple truth, "Because I like it that way."
I wished I would have told people that sooner
I was in Jaipur India last winter where our took took (3 wheel motorcycle carriage) operator said I looked like a drummer. India appears conservative with short hair styles the norm. Longer hair is found with the European tourists. Try such hangouts as Pushkar or Hampi.
But very long hair was the style of choice over 500 years ago. Check out the rock carvings and statues in the temples. All the guys had very long hair then. This was India's ancient civilization, fed by the monsoon rains in the ag fields. Attached photo from Hampi, India, about 1500 A.D.
I would have preferred being called a guitarist. The drummers are all being replaced now by computer generated percussion.

Yes, you're right, first of all, the drummers has been started to being replaced since the synthesizers and keyboards with thousands of functions came in on the mid 70's and on early 80's.
Nowdays even if you aren't a composer or a musician, you can create any kind of music and beat using the computer.
You can create a variety of melodious sounds, but to my mind real music requires real musicians playing real instruments.

I can't stop listening to Neil Peart of RUSH. The best composition is "La Villa Strangiato".
My favorite classic percussion composition by far. I can't imagine a computer coming anywhere close to this percussion performance. His numerous awards are well deserved.
