For the last few years my weight has been hovering in the low 260's. Checked myself on the bathroom scale yesterday, and weighed in at 238, fully dressed. Not sure if it was the unemployment or the new job being more active, but I'll take it. [GRIN]

Congrats! It's awesome to lose some weight especially without particularly trying.
I did paleo eating with exercise to lose and now I do a modified version of it to maintain.
Years ago when I came off the road, I lost 20 pounds. I think it musta been the doughnut stops!

That's fantastic news, Frodo, and must feel really great! Congratulations! :)
That's EXCELLENT news, Mr. Frodo!!
My weight has fluctuated over the years, my current reading being somewhere in the mid-250s (the low 260s being my highest ever). When I used to hit the dance floor every night, plus regularly run on the beach (I used to live right across from it), I was below 180; but that was awhile ago....
Keeping physically active I believe is the secret -- so a big CONGRATS to you!!

Well done !!!
Good for you. Keep on going! I'm sure you'll feel much better also. I've lost 30 lbs in the last 3 years....just eating better and exercising regularly....never been better in what seems like ages! To think of it, it coincides with growing my hair long!

Congratulations on your successful weight loss, Frodo. Not trying to diet and not having any other reason for weight loss (like being sick) but still losing 30+ pounds is a great thing. Sometimes lifestyle changes, little things, make a huge difference.
Up until a few years ago, my wife and I were both morbidly obese - I tried everything under the sun - we took drastic measures - her first - I was too in love with food - when I saw her success, I thought I'd better get on the band wagon - I lost almost 150 pounds - and kept it off for 3 years now...
I would likek to drop another 15-20, but don't seem to be able to do that last hurdle - but I know I eat the wrong things still.
Congratulations, Frodo - hope you can keep going now that you've got a start... The increased energy and more positive outlook on life are the two greatest outcomes I've seen for myself...
Thanks for all the good thoughts, guys :D
My big challenge now is to figure out something to continue the improvement, while working around the limitations of my cyborg hip and my bronchitis.
Walking, swimming and bicycling tend to be lower impact.
I've trained myself to 1) not waste calories on bad/cheap/fast food, and 2) when I have to have a treat to make myself work for it (if I want ice cream, walk to the ice cream parlor and get a single serving of something very yummy, not go to the corner store and get a pint and snarf it up). Right now that has resulted me in eating too much good food...
That's fantastic, Frodo. Small changes can pay large dividends! Keep doing what you're doing, my friend!
Cheers,
Val
Great progress! Don't celebrate too much and put it all back on!
Good for you!
I keep going up and down between 250's and 260's....
back in 1998 I was 196.... (I am 5'8")
Thanks for the inspiration, both in weight loss and hair growth..

Through most of my life I've leaned to the other extreme-- underweight-- but the most I ever weighed was when I was eating lunch at a company cafeteria every day. I was up to around 160 lbs for awhile then. Now I'm self-employed and eat most of my meals at home. I eat plenty, but reasonably healthy and have to work at it to get over 130. BTW, I eat tons of carbs, but not many fats other than cheese. I pretty much gave up beef a few years ago, though, preferring amounts of lean chicken, turkey, eggs and some seafood. I eat lots of veggies, beans, whole wheat flour and pasta, though.
Congrats buddy!
I'll bet you feel a whole lot better, too.

Hi Frodo,
This is indeed very good news! It could be due to many things-but I'll take it too! I am going to guess the new job is helping you burn off some calories though.
I was weighing above 200 until they took my second kidney out. I lost around 20 pounds after it was removed. The doc said both of my kidneys weighed around 20 pounds each. My blood pressure and vitals returned to normal now. Only problem is now I can't pee anymore and have to go dialysis 3 times per week! I hope you continue to lose weight if that's your goal my friend!
