This past week we had the National Encampment of our civil war group in Marrietta Georgia. It went very well, I noticed that the membership seemed younger than in past years. I'm 59, the average age is 54 in the organization.
I was also noticing that there are now five of us who now have long hair. I hadn't noticed that at the national encampment, just at the state and local level. I was also noticing that three of the guys with long hair were significantly older than me.
Are you in Albany, Ga. or NY? I do war between the states here in Ga. Glad to see more long hairs in the re-enactment.
New York. The encampment was in historical Marrietta Georgia.
The hotel that stands there now was a hospital in the civil war. It's near the Confederate National Cemetery. Georgia also has mahy other historical sites.
Our group is not a re-encactment group. We are an honorary group to honor relatives who were the boys in blue who answered Lincolns call to save the union. We have many members who are in the civil war round tables, the verious re-encactment groups, the Zouaves, etc.
One of the sad things that I note as I travel around the US of A is how few historical sites from the civil war remain, and how few schools still teach about the civil war.
