My two clergy colleagues have recently posted, as has the other member who is Australia based. It reminded me that I've been very remiss about not being on the board, except for an occasional lurk. First of all, I'll post a few update photos. I had a couple inches of dried-out ends cut off a few months back, but am otherwise progressing nicely into long hairdom. I'm happy with the way it's growing in, and I'm managing to keep it nice and moisturised with my regimen of twice-weekly washings and a bit of argon oil and moisturiser on the intermediate days.
I was sacked from my job at the end of June and as a result I don't know what the future will bring. I'm still in Australia but in order to stay long-term I have to have another sponsor. Several friends formed a non-profit company to employ me as a rabbi-at-large and we're waiting for approval from Immigration. I've also filed a complaint against my former employer with the Fair Work Commission and that grinds forward slowly. At this stage we really don't know whether we will end up remaining in Australia, or returning to the USA. The latter would be no big tragedy...I miss my kids terribly. They're both living in Boulder, so if we go back to our home in Colorado Springs we'll be within reach.
Okay, my brothers...hope this finds everybody well and, in that enduring phrase, 'growing and flowing'!
Don
Here's my progress from the back...
Nice and bushy, as you can see! :-)
Hi Don,
I must say thanks for checking in and posting your great pictures... I love the thickness and color....
I wish you and your family the best wherever you end up staying..
Take care.. The Spaf Man

I wish you good luck in your bid to stay in 'Oz' - I love Australia & most who come here want to stay - all the best to you cheers CEM.
All the best to you & your family, wherever you may decide to go!

Its great to see your pictures, Don. You've made incredible progress in the growing process. But, I am sorry to hear that you were fired from your job. I went through that a few years ago and it was a real blow. I hope you find a way to stay where you are with sponsorship, etc. Keep in touch.
Thanks, Fitz. Yeah, at our age it's a blow, but nothing beyond our ability to recover. Thank God, we've been frugal and have savings, which have recovered from the losses of the big melt down of 2007-9. And I have a pension from Uncle Sam. Lot's of people are much worse off. We'd like to stay here in Australia, if for no other reason than we're doing good work and making a positive impact on people...not including the board of my last synagogue! :-)

Hi Don,
First of all, thanks a bunch for checking in! I am very dismayed to hear of your job situation! Sometimes I wonder why bad things happen to good people! But I also believe everything happens for a reason! However, I have full faith and confidence you will make the right decision on how to proceed! May God be by your sides through the rough times!
On a lighter note, your hair is looking great! And so are you! You are making excellent progress! I just wish the photo showed the color of your hair better! Do you have a goal length in mind? I think at least mid-back length-what do you say? Please keep it growing and please stay well my friend!
Ted
No specific length in mind, Ted...at this stage I want it long enough to braid; not quite there yet! I'll just let it grow and see...
Maybe the colour is easier to see in this photo, although it's a few weeks old. Cheers and thanks for the encouragement!
Don
Hi Don,
Ah yes! There's the beautiful color! Your hair is just so nice looking in this photo for some reason! I really appreciate you posting this pic! Yes, I would just let it grow and flow...I'm sure you will love the results!
I would like to ask you to keep me in your thoughts and prayers. I have to go to the emergency room tommorrow. Much appreciated my friend! Take care!
Ted
Hi Don,
Thanks so much for stopping by to say hello to us, and filling us in re. what's been happening with you -- although I am so sorry to hear about your recent job loss. I applaud your positive attitude, though, while being in the midst of such a stressful situation at present.
I visited Australia during the mid-'90s, touring the country with my brother, sister-in-law, and nephew (8 years old at the time -- hard to believe he's about to turn 30 now - LOL). I totally fell in love with Australia when I visited there, so I don't blame you one bit for wanting to stay there yourself! However, in thinking about living in such a distant land myself, I doubt I'd ever move away from California now, since I've been here since '77 (that was my "BIG MOVE" year from the Chicago, IL area)... But it helps that you are still young, as well as I'm relieved to hear that you saved up some money that will help cushion you during this current challenging time.
Your hair looks GREAT, by the way -- nice color, thickness, length, etc.... My best to you, Don, regardless of whether you remain in Oz, or move back to Colorado, always a pleasure hearing from you!!

Hey Don, sorry to hear about the rough time your experiencing. Your hair has grown quite long since your last update! Hang in there!
