So, here I am again posting another update not only from my hair, but from recent events that happened to me.
I'm also very happy for reaching 19 months and I never thought I could get there and I never thought my hair would pass the "afro" stage that I used to wear in the past (where at least I tried, until I was forced to cut by my father as you know). I've also swapped into a new conditioner with argon oil (bought it in the beginning of this month and already noticed some difference).
The good news is, I went to a couple of interviews last month, especially one from the last two weeks, I went for a collective job interview, never went to one of that kind and I was left in a room with a lot of other people and when the employee said that we had 10 minutes to met each other and tell in the front of everyone in that room the persons we met and their qualities, I went into a completely despair and then have a thought that came to my mind, the same that I had in fourth grade in my school days, "no one would join and make a group with me and once again be excluded from the class" and for my surprise I was wrong this time. The moment I blinked my eyes, two women sat in the front of me and another one was sitting on my right side, they're not only doing what the employee asked, but it changed into a very long conversation between us four and for my suprise, all of those four maded compliments about my hair saying things like "Wow, what beautiful well cared hair you got here, I wish many men had the same care as you" and the other one that was sitting on my right side was playing with my hair. I would say that in that day I was the center of attention, since the other guys were looking angry at me all the time. When the interview ended, I went to the WC and when I thought that everyone was already gone, those same four womens were waiting for me outside, wanting a company and wanted me to take them to the train station, since I was also going there and we went all together there and we took the same train to go home, but went down in different stations.
Sadly, I wasn't hired in that day, but that day was worth it, since it raised my self esteem in a way, that even when I got home, not even my father and my mother managed to make me upset, I felt awesome that day hahaha.
I won't going to lie, but since that day, I've received a few compliments from people that doesn't see me in years, saying to keep it up and don't cut it and this makes me happy, even more than before. My mother sometimes talks about the disadvantages of long hair, but taking a couple of more minutes everyday combing it or washing it makes me proud to love myself.
Sad you didn't get the job, but the positive attention and commentary is worth a lot! Good luck!
Thanks 'Guil.' for sharing - a very nice heart-rending story of growth, discovery & the power of a compliment, to re-envigour, enliven & strengthen ones conviction & sense of self ... love it !!! cheers - have a great day CEM. ~:0)~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ oh ( btw ) your hairs looking great - really settling in now - hide the scissors.
Nice pic, Guilherme, your hair looks just plain EXCELLENT!!!
I also like your facial hair, it looks very good on you -- gives you a look of added maturity and dignity. And to my way of looking at things, your hair & beard combo makes you look all that much more valuable and serious as a perspective employee.
Nice story, I like it (although now you just need to interview with maybe a future FEMALE employer - LOL)!
Take Care,
Ken in San Francisco, California
A picture of myself from 5 months ago without a beard, it's a 5 day stubble (Yes, an employer asked me to shave my beard for the selective process for working in a kitchen, sadly I wasn't hired and since that day, I didn't shaved my beard anymore)
Thanks for the kinda words, even though I don't like to shave, I don't like to taking it off, since everytime I do this, my face immediately turns red, gets itchy and burns like hell. I may not got the best genes for a beard, but trying to look a picture of me without a beard is weird you know and even so, without a beard I think in my opinion that people around here doesn't take me seriously, thinking I'm just another kid even if I say I'm 20.
Now we just have to do an interview with a female employer and pray for this one to get a little "weakness" for men with longhair, since I've already met other women employers who hated men with long hair.
Hope that you can be yourself in whatever line of work you end up being. It is crazy to me how people can be small minded regarding facial hair. Since knowing that I didn't have to try to pass for white at work any more, I have trimmed the beard and mustache. I enjoy being able to be me and keep things trimmed and neat. If you do not have thick beard, don't worry.
Your right, people nowdays doesn't really care that much to see if you can get the job done, they only care for the appearence of their employees and if you aren't in the "Company Standards" they try to do everything to get you fired or even not hiring you.
One of my neighbours has been hired to work in an Ammunition Factory and one of the pre-requisites to enter in there, was to be in the "Company Standards" and so he "butchered" all his hair and shaved his beard, not only for the Company, but his girlfriend was asking this since the beginning.
Conclusion: He got fired from the Factory, his girlfriend left him behind and so there he is, lost his job, his hair, his beard and his girl.
Take Care
Cheers!
Thanks for sharing your story , Guilherme! I really enjoyed reading it. Too bad you didn't get the job though, but don't worry. This won't be the first nor the last job interview!
Your hair looks amazins this way and will look even better once it grows out more, just hold on there.
BTW, are you from Brazil or Portugal? Your name rings a bell somewhere, but not sure where you're from (Sorry, I HAD to ask haha)
Cheers.
Thanks for the encouraging words!
Hey, don't worry, feel free to ask hahaha. I'm from Brazil.
Cool, eu sou argentino :P haha
Legal, mas sem essa briga clichê de Maradona x Pelé, afinal nem gosto de futebol hahaha.
kkkk eu não gosto de futebol cara ..! So assisti a copa do mundo :)
Hi Guilherme,
Thanks for the great update! You are making great progress on your journey! You just have to let your hair grow longer and it will look awesome! I am enjoying your updates here and am happy to hear you have a positive attitude about your hair! I wouldn't worry about the job. There will be more chances to get a job.I would only take a job where the company has a good attitude towards long hair on men. Please keep us updated and stay well my friend!
Ted
Hi there Ted, hope everything is alright with you, since you went into an emergency room these days.
Thanks for the kinda words, I have the same thoughts as you about companies accepting long haired men, I won't get my hair "butchered" and being something that the company wants and not being myself, there's a thousands of jobs out there right?
Hope you stay well my friend.
Cheers!
Hi Guilherme,
Thanks a bunch for your well wishes! I am happy they didn't admit me to the hospital. My parents raised my brother and I to be tolerant and open-minded people. We were allowed to have whatever length hair we wanted. Even now I am very tolerant of different types of people because of this. If a company wants you to cut your hair, who knows what other rules they have for the workers? Please be well my friend!
Ted
Hey there! I must say your hair is looking very nice, I am glad you are not being discouraged about the job search.. A good employer should look at ability rather your hair. I'm glad that your self esteem is improved... Wishing you all the best..
