I've been meaning to post this long hairstyle tutorial for over a year now; but procrastination being one of my better virtues (LOL), I'm only now finally getting around to sharing these pics and instructions...
Bare (or is it spelled "bear?") with me while I post 9 more pics and their comments / instructions!

After brushing or combing your hair, gather it together AS IF you are about to ponytail it; but instead, twist it into a "tornado" (I'm originally from the Midwestern United States; so tornados are intuitive for me, because "in my blood" - LOL)....
... eagerly awaiting my next instalment ... hehehe ~:0)~
LOL, about as "exciting" as the unveiling of a brand new iphone, isn't it? (ROFL!)
After trying your best to center your "hair tornado" (whether you choose high or low, or even leaning to the left or right a bit -- up to you!), pull it up to see how well it holds together, before coiling and gathering it into a bun....
Now starting with the base of your "tornado" (the twisted portion of hair closest to your head), coil it around and around into a little doughnut (please do NOT do this step close to any policeman's view, as they are notorious -- in America at least -- for being fond of EATING donuts!)...
Continue on with the gathering, twisting, and coiling process, "ad nauseaum" (the stunning panoramic view in the background of my kitchen pots & pans are totally free-of-charge to longhairs, by the way)....
As the scary tornado gradually disappears more & more into your head and starts to become a harmless donut, your hair gets downgraded from an F-4 to maybe just an F-2 (Absalom's and Trolleypup's hair, on the other hand, remain at the F-5 category)...
Here we are, winding down towards the finish-line! A good "test" to see whether or not your bun will last all day is when you're able to do this before securing it with a hair-tie....
You are now ready to start adding your hair-tie -- which if placed well, should keep your bun secure for the whole day (unless of course, you wrestle alligators for a living)...
I recommend doubling up your hair-tie, or even tripling it (whatever you normally do for an ordinary ponytail, depending upon the thickness & stretchiness of the hair-ties you have on-hand). You'll also notice that there is often a little "mini-tail" sticking out from the bun. No worries, it's actually usually more helpful to have one of these than not! (A little tail sticking OUTside of the hair-tie helps to keep the bun itself from unravelling)
....And here's what the end result looks like (as seen from a good angle underneath, to show the doubling of the hair-tie holding the bun well in place)... I hope you enjoyed this little "educational moment!" (LOL)

PS - A big THANK YOU to Eve (AKA "Even"), my partner, for taking these photos of me doing this over a year ago!
BRAVO !!! ( as I manically drag pix. to my desk-top, for future reference ) - < writes on 'to-do' list' > "try Ken's 'easy-geasy' man-bun" - PRONTO !!! - ( oh & thanks for the chuckles )
Thanks for the kind reply, Mr. C.E.M.! So glad to hear you liked my man-bun tutorial!
(And you're welcome for the chuckles -- the most embarrassing admission being that my weird sense of humor reminds me more & more everyday of MY DAD'S corny sense of humor.... which, back when I was a teenager, was NOT at all "cool"... OMG, HELP!)

I've noticed myself suffering from the same condition in recent years. I'm afraid my condition has worsened to the point of being terminal. My expressing my father's warped sense of humor will be the death of me I'm sure.

Thank you for the tutorial. We need more of these for other air styles.
Ken !
Great tutorial....but more importantly, you hair color is just magnificent. Ain't it great to being aging with dignity ? giggle
Thanks for Sharing
Walter
Thank you, Walter!
But, really, "Dignity?" I'll tell you what would make me feel a magnificent sense of DIGNITY: if I could only look as good as I did back when I was the young stud-muffin age of 23 -- now THAT would be "aging with dignity!" (Hey, I can dream, right? - LOL)
- Ken
"...I was the young stud-muffin age of 23 --..."
I think I am 26 and look like Brad Pitt.....of course, the mirror says "71 and Don Rickles".........sigh
Hi Ken,
Your tutorial and that bun are both very well done!Love the way you did step by step instructions on how to wrap it and that little tail looks cute too :) Sorta like a little fuse.Ha ha.Next you'll have to graduate to doing a video so we can actually hear your words. If you do try the video just try and keep it from going over an hour or longer ;) We all know how much you like to bloviate! Just joking my friend .....LOL.Happy Twisty Tornados:)

Hey Mark,
Why not a 5 hour-long video?? I mean, let's say that the next time you come out West here, you can be my videographer, and we can take several long breaks (but while the camera is still rolling) -- to introduce my cats, for example, or to watch us eat a good old fashioned 1950s-style Mel's Diner lunch maybe... Then we can include Bill & Larry talking about what it's like to vacuum up all of Bill's shed hairs all over their house, followed by me eventually getting back to how to do a tornado-style "Man Bun".... and maybe even Scott could join in and introduce all of his pet snakes! We could make this video go on & on & on (and on & on & on & on some more...) -- and THEN we can ask all who watch it to share their videos of themselves falling asleep or yawning while watching my video!! Cool ideas, huh? (LOL)
All kidding aside, a short video would be a heck of a lot of fun!!
"Later, 'gator!"

Hi Ken,
Although I am too lazy to do different styles, I do appreciate you posting this! I really do like the way your hair looks in a bun also! I also like the way your pots are hanging on the wall. That's a cool idea. Thanks again!
Ted
You're very welcome, Ted! And even though you say for right now you're "too lazy" to try new hairstyles, I've found that as my hair gradually grew longer & longer, putting my hair back into a bun became more & more practical (and also with practice, became easier & easier to do)...
Let me know if you ever decide to give it a try, as I think you might like it!
these pictures are great, Ken - my hair isn't too long yet, but I've tried a couple times to get my hair off my neck - failed each time... The tornado effect might be the reason why... or maybe I need to wait a little longer in the growth process. Will try.
thanks,
Fitz
Glad you liked the pics, Fitz!
As hair gradually gets longer and looooonger, it's really mostly a "discovery" process -- I don't remember anyone really teaching me how to do a man-bun, for example, I more or less just figured it out through trial & error. My first attempts to bun my hair was during the mid-90s (the first time I grew my hair out), when I worked as a gardener and just needed to come up with something practical to keep the hair out of the way (for safety reasons, like when using a weed-wacker machine or backpack leaf-blower). I was a bit self-conscious about it at first, not really wanting to draw any more attention to my hair or to me than necessary; but after awhile the look grew on me (pun intended - LOL).... and nowadays I find it's my favorite quick & easy way to protect my hair during the day (to prevent tangling on windy days, safety at work in the kitchen where I cook, etc.)
These things "evolve"... so have fun experimenting as you continue on your hair-farming journey!
Thanks again for your reply, Fitz!

Excellent lesson Professor! Now I have some homework to do!
It doesn't hurt that you have such perfect hair to work with!
Bruce
Thanks Ken, you and your Man Bun look great...
I hope I have enough length to try it someday!
