Here is my hair currently after 5 months. I made a decision back in May to not cut my hair, and to grow it out for once in my life. I have always worn my hair short, but have been told that I have awesome thick hair and should grow it out. Behold !!! :)

You obviously have great potential. I was in my 4th month of not cutting my hair when I decided to grow it out.
If it's encouraging to you, I have had an enjoyable "awkward phase", and I still can't yet get all my side hairs into my ponytail. I'm just past 12 months. Please keep us posted, and you can count on our support, from those with really long hair, those of us who are "getting there" and from other beginners.
Enjoy the discovery and a new life that is beginning. And don't listen to the criticisms from those who see you breaking from the conformity mould! Go for it!
