...more about vocation than about hair, although for the record here's a picture of the latter, taken yesterday as I was out enjoying the spring weather and searching for fresh hadas and aravah for the festival of Sukkot.
Some friends and I started a company to take over my sponsorship - I'm on a work visa - in Australia, and the change was accepted by the Immigration Department. So, at least for now, I'm staying in Australia. The company is called Jewish Journeys, and whilst the website is not yet active, you can find us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/jewishjourneysaustralia. The concept is to provide the 'normal' rabbinic services, but outside the framework of a congregation. So far I have clients on the Gold Coast and am cultivating a few others in Brisbane and Toowoomba.
Support from friends has been great! Clara and I have been staying in one friend's granny flat for two-and-a-half months rent free, although tomorrow we're moving into a unit (that's what they call a condo here) that we've rented. And someone else gave me a car, a Mitsubishi with only 34,000 km on the clock.
Now that things are settling down, we're planning a trip to the USA in December to see our kids and visit with my family and some friends. We'll be in Colorado Springs for a couple of weeks, in Charlottesville VA for a few days, and perhaps Sun City as well.
Thanks for all your expressions of support and solidarity. Through all this turmoil, it seems that my hair is the least of my worries. But I'm VERY happy with the way it's growing out, and not planning to cut it any time in the near future.
All the best, guys...
Don
Don, I am glad to hear things are going as well as they are. Your hair looks spectacular. I can't believe how long it has grown... Glad to hear from you. I'll look you up on facebook.
