Hey guys! It's been a while since I've posted.
Hope you all can offer some advice. I've got very fine, straight hair. This is the longest it's been! It's just about to touch my shoulders and I want to go about 3-4 i inches more (here's a recent pic from behind). But it is starting to look a bit ragged.
It is very dry all of a sudden. It was always so oily before. The problem is that when I use any conditioning products, they make my hair very flat and look even more fine. I'm not shampooing but every three days. What do you fine hair guys use? What is your routine?
Also, could my dryness problem be promoting tangles? I get tangles every time the wind blows now! It's a pain. I work them out with my fingers and then a wide tooth comb and I try to be careful, but I still feel like I'm pulling my hair out.
Anyway. Thanks for the advice guys! I think this will be easier when it's long enough to braid. Can't wait for that!
Hi Steve,
First off great hair you have there, I love the thickness and color:)I can relate to you as my hair is also fine and straight but is longer than yours at lower back.At times I have the same issues so what I try to do is moisturize my hair with beneficial oils such as jojoba or coconut to combat the dryness.Just be careful not to overdo the oiling as it'll just make your hair look flat and oily.A little will go a long way my friend😊 It's just one of those issues,as a longhair, you have to deal with but its not the end of the world. I'm sure others will offer their advice too so just stay tuned as I'm sure you'll solve this problem. Cheers

I use WEN cleansing conditioner(replaces shampoo), followed by OJON Rare blend oils especially on the ends. SJ
You have to use conditioner. (You don't have to use shampoo.)
How many different conditioners have you tried? You just have to find the one(s) that work for you. I've spent some money over the years trying different conditions.
I would try some conditioners made for curly hair. They provide good moisture, and will promote the texture without weighing it down.
An additional leave-in conditional could help.
I put conditioner on the length to protect it from the shampoo, then shampoo just the scalp. Rinse.
Then I gently squeeze as much water as I can out of my hair (wet hair will not absorb as much conditioner).
Then I apply the conditioner and leave on for at least 5 minutes.
Good luck!
I have fine hair that can be very dry, too. I used to take the approach of conditioning the heck out of it, but lately I've come to like an opposite approach. I only shampoo and condition about once every 2-3 weeks. A couple of times a week in between I massage baking soda on the scalp, then do a vinegar rinse. I brush daily from the scalp to the ends with a boars bristle brush. As a result, hair never looks dry and has more moisture and volume than it's had in years. I don't go entirely for the "no-shampoo" concept, but very infrequent shampooing works well for me.

.... And also after you use conditioner on your hair, rinsing thoroughly with COOL water as the final rinse...
Try applying a small amount of pure olive oil on the ends of your hair, while your hair is still damp -- you'll be amazed at how much more manageable your mane will become, how softer, smoother, and silkier it will feel, AND how much better it will look!
There are other beneficial oils that work well, too (like kukui nut oil, almond oil, or jojoba oil): but olive oil being the cheapest and most easily available (if it's good enough to eat with your food, it's good enough for your hair!), this is the one I most recommend nowadays.
Happy hair-farming!

Thanks for all the advice guys! I'm going to try oil on the ends, as conditioner doesn't seem to be doing much.
