Since I've now entered the awkward stage, I'm going to start doing bi-monthly updates on my own progress and on any new tips I learn (which probably won't be much, since I did a lot of research during the summer). These'll probably be very rambley since I don't do planning very well...or at all...
Mostly in this video I cater to the newbies, with some (hopefully) helpful tips on going through the awkward stage. The beginning, I talk about something else, but about a minute in I get on topic)
Warning, I do curse a bit, if that bothers anyone.
Also turn the sound up, the recording kinda botched that part up
You are doing very well. You Orientals have very straight hair, which will make it easier to manage throughout the awkward stage. Many of us Caucasians have hair that starts to curl as it grows, as mine did. We are all different.
I am nearing the end of the awkward stage, but I still have a small amount of side hair that will not go into a ponytail, and my front hair will take another 4 to 5 months because I prefer a low ponytail.
I was talking with my sister-in-law and wife, and they found that my early awkward stage hair just looked like my having neglected to cut it. Then I had side hair curling upwards on both sides. Only now is it staying down under the weight of the hair. I dont think you will have that problem.
Finally, just live from day to day. Look after your hair, but dont worry about it. Just get on in life and enjoy the differences as they become noticeable.
Enjoy the journey.

Hi Vin Yang,
I have to say your video was fun to watch and did offer up some good advice for the newbie to longhair.Your hair looks fantastic, even at that shorter length, but as its lengthens it will be outstanding!Your type of hair looks great long:)My hair is straight too but I hardly remember the awkward stages since that was so long ago for me.My hair has been long for decades so my relationship with longhair has been a very long one.Anyway thanks for your post and informative video my friend. As the saying goes....keep it growin' and flowin' ;)

I'm too lazy to type out that long of a link, so I haven't watched your video; but congrats on your hair growth accomplishments anyway...

You have very very nice hair, and if you let me be really honest, compared to others here, you have probably the easiest nicest hair to grow out and actually I couldn't call anything about it Awkward. Having said that, for All of us, it takes getting used to to have hair flopping around, moving around, the feeling the look, etc. especially if it has been really short up until this time. Most of the "awkward stage" is mental/emotional. It is just having to come to grips with NOT being self conscious about a look which you fear may bring criticism or comment. Once you drop that aspect, it is just YOUR Hair growing out as YOU want it. Then, you will enjoy it. Don't worry about what others think as there will Always be someone to criticize Anything you do in your life. SJ
YESSSSSS to the owning your look bit!
I always think it's not about keeping the same look, but finding what looks good for you for the length it's currently at (like changing the part/bangs and stuff)
