So it was this month 3 years ago that my wife detangled my dreadlocks (they were only about 3" long at the time) and I decided I wanted to grow my hair to terminal length. Thing is, my hair wants so badly to form dreadlocks (even with the bi-annual trim to take off split ends and such). ~6 months ago I first tied my hair up in a "joorah" (topknot) and wrapped a turban around it for protection. . .it felt so right and it keeps my hair so manageable, I've worn a turban every day since.
Having changed to a plant-based/whole-food/high-raw diet about 2.5 years ago, my scalp doesn't get very smelly, and being held up in a turban keeps the hair clean and easy to comb.
Today it was hair-washing day, so I left it out of the turban to dry, figured I'd post an update
Hello!
Wow,it's been a while since I've seen you here so welcome back! Also cool to see your new look without the dreads.Seems to me you've got a routine down as it shows in the quality of your hair.Great looking mane with all the curls :)I think your one of the first here using a turban so I can relate to how well they protect the hair.Cheers

Thanks! I really should hang out here more often

I'm really enjoying it. . .did the dreads thing off-and-on for about 10 years, and I'll probably have dreads again sometime. . .but not before I get to terminal length!

I have to admit when reading what you washed your hair with it blew me away when you consider some of those expensive hair care products out on the market. To even think the best shampoo is contained within our own body is quite remarkable. How long have you been washing your hair that way and how long do you age the urine?Honestly this is a first for me to hear this but that's what makes the mlhh such a learning experience :)Cheers

I know, it's been quite an enlightening experience. I age it at least 2-3 weeks, but I notice the longer, the better. I age it by filling a gallon jar and letting it sit out in a shed with fabric/rubber-band over the top so it can breathe. Letting the ammonia off-gas helps with the smell greatly.
I've been washing my hair with urine for about 8 months. Urine is a blood product (the medical term is "blood plasma ultrafiltrate") so depending on what one consumes, the urine will be more or less offensive/palatable. Drinking lots of water (I prefer distilled) is recommended ;)

You have gorgeous hair, love the curls! Your hair is very similar to mine :-)
I must try your method of washing, sounds interesting. I know there's all kinds of information out there regarding urine therapy; may have to look this up.
Keep up the great work with the hair!
Kenny
And an excellent beautiful mane you have as well!
I know, it's so simple, yet so profound :D
Many thanks, and you as well!-TBG

WOW, am ever jealous of your terrific-looking curls!!!!
Thanks so much for stopping by, it's always a treat to hear from you! (Although I'm not brave enough to try out the aged urine shampoo, thank you - LOL)
Re. turbans:
I've considered looking into that myself, as I so often wear my hair in a bun, anyway. I've looked at a few instructional YouTube videos on the subject, as well as have talked to a local Sikh man that I know a bit. "If you love your hair, you learn to protect it!" is what he said to me once. Very wise words in my view!
Thanks again for stopping by!
