I was working along at the library this afternoon, out on the main floor, and a big, tall black guy--shaved head--came up to me and said something to the effect of, "Dude, I love the way you rock that ponytail."
I must have looked stunned or something, because he went on, "No, seriously, it looks good the way you just put it out there. You keep on doin' that."
Of course I have no intention of cutting, but it's nice to hear a sort of validation, I guess, from other bald guys who have gone the other way--shave the rest.
Anyway, it made my day.
Hi brucew,
I feel that was a really cool encounter with that guy especially since he is completely bald.Very nice of him to go out of his way to give your that thumbs up. I admire guys who may be loosing their hair but resist and grow what they can. That shows how much self confidence they have and its to be commended:) Cheers my friend.

Thanks, Mark.
But really, it's less self-confidence, and more eff 'em. ;)
Nice!!!
As I recall, you & I are fairly close in age (I turned 61 this past summer). I happen to have a receding hairline in front, and even though it's not "too" severe, my feeling is that ANY hair loss is not a welcome one! I have many friends though, my same age or even younger, who have decided to simply shave their heads due to MPB....
It's an individual choice, of course; but every time I see an older guy who has NOT caved in to the shaved-head philosophy, it gives me an incredibly big smile on my face to see men willing to grow and/or keep their hair long, in spite of the Fashion Police telling us otherwise!
So, for what it's worth: you made my day, too!!

Hi Ken!
Yes, I'm in your footsteps. I was 57 in June.
What made it doubly nice yesterday was that only a couple of hours earlier I was discussing with someone that I really ought to move.
Ordinarily, that's not a big issue, but I'm thinking of one of those low-income 55-and-over places. While my rent would be less than half, and my energy bill would disappear entirely, it's an old-folks place.
Now I don't mind getting older. In fact I'm rather enjoying it. Life really DID begin for me at 50. And if I had to go through those hellish first 50 years to get where i am now, I'd do it all over again.
But it's the prospect of moving into a building where I'd be "the kid" and probably the only one not complaining about aches, pains, diet restrictions, and constipation. When I toured the place in October, it was a beautiful sunny day in the upper 60s. Inside it was nearly 80, and people were wearing sweaters.
It really was made worse when the chirpy girl in the rental office gushed about the freshly refurbished shuffleboard court. I ride my bike 50 miles a week (in the winter) to 200 miles a week (summer). Do I look like I need a shuffleboard court?
But, it will let me put an extra grand a month into my retirement savings. So I really ought to do it, but the reality is that it will probably be my last move, and with my health, that could be decades.
And I don't wanna yet!
Good for you.... I am teased to shave it and give up...bald spot is getting bigger.....BUT ponytail now 11" long...
Keep growin... best wishes on the move.. The Spaf Man
