I know it's not a guy's hair in the picture, but I'd like to recant you lot a tale:
My mom had lower-back length hair going into the salon two days ago. The lady who cut her hair started off by trimming two inches off :o before even going into a rushed layer job, which resulted in the crown hair being 3 inches shorter than the rest of the hair! 'Twas horrible for me to see, as such length is hopefully in my future
So, I looked up some crap on the internet about how to layer long hair, and went to work this afternoon. While the resulting job lost her hair another two inches, I think I did a good job of blending the layers together so that it's less noticeable and uneven--especially considering that it was my first time cutting any hair longer than four inches.
I think it's good for me to know that, in the future, I might not need to go to a hairstylist to fix anything! Considering the crap job I got with my SHORT hair a year ago, I'm not too keen as to what they'd do with my long hair a year down the road.
Did she go to a trusted stylist she has been using? Or did she go to a stylist that she had never used before?
I've been going to the same stylist since 2000, which is when I began growing mine. When I told her to cut 1/8", that's exactly what she cut. When I find someone good, I stick with them and tip WELL.
Never go to a "No Appointment" salon, and just get a random stylist. A random stylist will give you random results. When searching for a new stylist, get recommendations from people you trust.
There are very good stylists out there that will give you exactly what you want (if you communicate well).
