So it's been 15 months from me having been forced to shave my head (what's up class of September 2013?!), and here is a short video showing my hair progression towards long hair again, closing in on 1.5 years of growth!
Hair is still rather awkward, getting in my eyes a lot, not laying back too well, and just being a pain in the behind... but I love it to death! haha
Would love to hear from you guys, so please take the time to check this out... even you Ken, you lazy, technology phobic long haired hippie ;)
Thanks guys!
Raul's 15 months of hair growth
Hi Raul,
Oh, I am most definitely one of the guilty ones, with my very low activity on the hyperboard lately, and I am going to make the effort to be much more active in the upcoming days.
That preamble out of the way, I am very impressed by how far you have come from having almost no hair at all to where you are now. The first part of the journey is always the hardest, and cheers to you for persevering.
Things can only get better, just think where you will be a year from now, and you can count on our continued support. The rewards are definitely worth it!
Take care, and keep it growing!
David
Thank you, David!
I have to ask though... I have been thinking lately that maybe it's time to get back to the drawing board and re-trim the back all the way, so that I can get closer to the point of having one length hair. It's getting to be rather mullet-ish, and I am not really sure about that.
Your thoughts?
I've never understood the aversion to anything that remotely resembles a mullet. It's one thing to purposely cut it that way as a style, but quite another as a path to being a longhair. Personally I found the mullet period as a gateway to having long hair sooner than I would have otherwise.
Good Luck!

I agree Dale, it's that eternal question... to endure the mullett in order to achieve hair that looks long quicker, or to even it out and have hair that feels good even if it's shorter...
I think I will proabably keep away from the scissors for the time being, at least until the 2 year mark :)
Hi Guys,
I've wondered from time to time what was so horrible about the mullet even though its not a style that I'd personally choose. It sure beats a buzzcut and for some people actually can look good on them.Raul,I'd recommend just leaving you hair alone for at least another year before starting to tinker with it.It sorta reminds me of the old rule of the lumberyard. That is measure twice but cut once;)I think that says it all my friend.Keep on growin':)Cheers

Message received, Mark! Thanks! I think I will do just that!
I am also debating on trimming the back of my hair which has grown quite long in the last 7 months, and its a hard decision to make. My hair grows pretty fast, and I have gained quite a bit of hair since May of this year, especially considering that I had a shaved head at the time. I figure that if I trim the back just a little, the hair in the front will catch up in the next 6-7 months or so, and everything will be uniform. Anyhow, great progress Raul ! I really enjoy watching your videos, and I can relate to many things that you talk about. I think we have alot more in common than just being on a long hair journey. Take care guys !
As they say in the timber mill and the carpentry workshop, measure twice, cut once. The difference between hair and wood is that hair grows, but slowly. It's the choice of each person, but don't trim too early, above all not in the awkward stage.

Great update Raul! You are about as long as I cut my hair down to in 1998, which is what I consider my starting point. Your doing great. Just be patient with it and keep growing it. Before you know it you will be rocking that gorgeous mane as well as or better than some of us old-timers.
Daniel
Thank you Daniel! I will try to live up the greatness you "old timers" have proved time and time again :D
Looking good Raul, always nice to see you on YT.
Thanks for the video... Take Care.. The Spaf Man
Thanks buddy! Can you believe we're already 1/4 done with my 2nd year? Time sure does fly! :)

Hi Raul - great video, I was smiling from start to finish - oh yes = you will need patience, more than ever now, during this awkward stage - but keep on as you are doing - having fun, experimenting, tweeking & twerking ... hehehe - your youtube site is very professional = I love it !!! cheers CEM.
Hey CEM!
Thanks so much, man! :) I've put countless hours into slowly but steadily upping my quality in both production, editing and all around design, and I am glad you are finding the channel entertaining!
It's quite amazing, to be honest with you, how this thing grew into a rather large online community, where people inspire other people to grow their hair long, and document the entire proccess... we might not have too many "all done" long hairs, but we've got a great bunch of guys, from 15 to 45 all doing this as a community, and I get daily mails from people wondering if their awkward stage is too tough to handle...
Great stuff, and it's all inspired by this amazing forum :)
WOW = I love that alot ! - you never know where seeds are gonna sprout ? - keep up the great work: ( way over there on 'YT' ) ... LOL ... the longhair experience is a journey = there is no start & finish - everyday is different: ( albeit subtle at times & not so subtle when using chopstix ... hehehe ) - ALL of us started from scratch - ALL phases are just as valid & important as the next: ( including & especially the awkward stage ) - as this is the stage that people 'throw in the towel', give up & cut it ) ... keep on keepin' on & as kenny says 'onward & way downwards' ... hehehe cheers CEM.
You're obviously having a great time. It makes me smile when I see you discovering what it is like to be able to put hair ends in your mouth. I often find hair ends (hairs still attached at the other ends) in my mouth without putting them there.
You mention trimming to get it all to a single length. Don't! My wife has often mentioned this and my answer is the same. I want the length and I'll consider styling when all my hair is very long. When we have a buzz cut or shave the head, it makes all the hairs the same length. They all then grow at more or less the same rate and that gives the "layered" effect. As the hair grows more, the differences of lengths will leave you head to find themselves down your back.
At that stage, you will be able to choose whether to cut a clean line so that all your hairs reach the same point, or leave the layers. That will be your choice. I advise against any interference whilst you are still in the awkward stage. It's the same thing for me, and I refuse to allow my wife to touch my hair with anything resembling a cutting tool.
Sometimes, wild countryside can be more beautiful than a French garden - if you get my meaning.

Hey Anthony!
I definitely see your point about getting to the actual "long hair" phase without any trims, and I am inclined to do that just. Cutting the back now would turn my hair into some sort of nick carter 90's bowl cut, and it's a rather scary thout as is, seeing as I am getting an anxiety attack almost each time I see scissors or hear the sound of a trimmer, haha :D
Keep at it, man... we are not that far off our 2 year mark, which in my eyes, is the true entry point to long hairdom! :)
Lazy, Technology-phobic Longhaired Hippie speaking! (LOL)
Nice update -- although I did briefly fall asleep towards the end of the video (sometimes old folks like me have problems with narcolepsy)...
Anyway, re. your thoughts about trimming:
Delay delay DELAY!!!
*IF* you are truly feeling miserable about the current look / style of your hair, then by all means, of course trimming is way preferable to buzzing it all off!! (An understatement - LOL) But, otherwise: what's the big rush? I think your hair looks GREAT, even just as it is!
"Onward & Downward!"

One of the few who tells me they fall asleep during my videos.. and here I thought it was the younger generation which has a shorter concentration span... :P
Anyways, I am definitely not miserable with my hair right now, and will probably just keep on marching towards the 2y mark in September, before I do anything to it :)
Thanks Ken!
Not much to add to your hair progress as I always follow you on every social media ( Instagram, YouTube and Facebook ) so you keep me updated all the time haha.
By the way, I loved the new hair styles you've been posting on IG lately. Good way to go through the awkward stage!
Keep it growing, Raul! it will only get better and better from now on.
