.... Not much weight (my Dr. said 13 pounds in the past 7 months) -- and not much hair, either (probably only 1 inch of growth, max); but still, at least both are moving in the right direction!
- Ken
That hair is inspiring the heck outta' me, Ken! Love fine, wavy hair...you are truly blessed! :)
Good job on losing some weight too, my friend!
Thanks, Raul! Although it looks like I'll never achieve knee-length (I've pretty much basically reached my terminal length now), I am grateful for what I do have, especially considering my age.
Thanks again!!
- Ken
Hi Ken!
Is you hair very very blonde or white ? I can't tell because of the lighting!
Either way, the color is amazing (as well as the texture!)
I really like it!
No matter how much it grows, please keep it this way !
Thanks for posting :)
Hi Dave,
I have a mix of colors: some of the natural blonde from my youth still happens to be there in my hair; but the majority of it has turned white now. There's even a few darker reddish-brown hairs growing in the back of my head... go figure!
Thanks so much for the nice reply, Dave!
- Ken
That is AWESOME, Ken.
beautiful hair, for sure.
it's always a good feeling to drop some pounds (at least I have always felt that way...)
Good for YOU>
Thanks for the kind words, Fitz, although I'm still quite a FATSO that needs to lose a heck of a lot more pounds; but, one fat molecule at a time, right?
"Onward & Downward!
(including more "downward" numbers when standing on the scale!)
Not much weight (my Dr. said 13 pounds in the past 7 months) and not much hair, either (probably only 1 inch of growth, max);but still, at least both are moving in the right direction!-Ken
Congrats !!! Kenny - that's 6. kilos: ( 1. stone ) well done !!! - I know how hard it is to lose weight - I 'battle-da-bulge' too ... healthy eating, portion-size, I know, I know = BUT THAT CHEESECAKE OVER THAR !!! LOL ... lovin' the hair too - I swear that's me in the mirror - are we twins ? lol ... I'm thinking I may have reached 'terminal' - but I'm supa fine with that ... so if you have or are nearing terminal don't fret - your hair is beautiful ... cheers CEM.
Thanks so much, CEM.; but, did you say, "cheesecake?" (WHO said cheesecake? Did somebody say CHEESECAKE?? And WHERE is that cheesecake???)
LOL, yes, I admit: I love love LOVE to eat!!
Thanks again for the nice reply! (And yes, sometimes I think we are twinsies -- although you are the much younger, slimmer twin - LOL!)
13 lbs is great news! I see the Dr soon, and am not that optimistic...
Your hair looks awesome as always... Thanks for sharing...
The Spaf Man
Thanks, Spaf! It's hard work to lose weight, I know; but I'm learning to make MODEST goals for myself, rather than anything too grandiose... Too easy to fail at the big impressive goals, easier road to success at moderate.
- Ken
Yes I would add that losing weight is hard, and that it will take a while to take the weight off, (as they say you didn't put it all on at once, it won't come off all at once.
You should also one lose the weight gradually, 1-2 pounds a week. Any more than that and you'll be losing muscle. (Remember your heart is a muscle.)
I'd be even more concerned with my brain. When we were in third grade, a kid once told me my brain was a muscle!
Bill
Congrats on both fronts, Ken! I know you've been concerned about your weight and it's great to hear of your success in losing some pounds. Once we get in a different routine, it can be easier to keep the momentum going.
Yes, AMEN to finding and keeping a good routine!
When I used to go out Swing dancing more often (also Salsa, Country & Western, and even a little bit of Ballroom dancing), keeping the pounds off was fairly easy. Also, there was a time in my life when I lived directly across from San Francisco's Ocean Beach -- when I used to run, hike the dunes, etc. But that ended when the '89 earthquake ended my job; so I had to settle for a lower paying job, as well as move to downtown SF to a cheaper apartment (which, as you can imagine, was not as "inspiring" to keep up with my running and dune-hiking anymore)...
The important thing to me right now is to at least make MODEST goals of improving my routines (both in eating, as well as in getting more exercise) -- success with small goals are better than setting my sights too high, and then failing!
Thanks so much for your reply, Jason!
- Ken
Not to mention not being among all those "inspiring" longhaired surfer dudes out at the beach anymore! [grin]
Bill
Hi Ken,
Cheers to you all around, for your weight loss and hair gain, and keep up the good work on both fronts!
Cheers, and keep it growing,
David
Thanks so much, David! As I just mentioned to Jason, for now I'm working on MODEST goals (the weight loss goal being the more important one -- my hair is pretty much at terminal length right now; so I don't even think much about any hair length goals anymore)...
I hope all is going well with you in your retirement -- and thanks again for your kind reply!!
- Ken
Double congratulations! Well done!
Congrats, Ken! And please, give me some pointers. It's a struggle here to not have less hair and more pounds as the years go by!
Bill
LOL! Well, my "pointers" (such as they are), are as follows:
1) try to achieve "reverse birthdays"... Here's my method: ever since I turned 50, I decided to go in reverse the next year when my birthday shows up on the calendar. Since "in theory" (according to this evil calendar), I am supposed to be 61 now, if I celebrate my birthday only in reverse, that would then make me 39 instead -- simply AMAZING!!
2) anytime I over-indulge in sugary or fatty foods, or in eating too much quantity of food (which, as you know and have witnessed me doing many times - LOL), I then try my best to THINK "LIGHT" THOUGHTS... Although no Dr. that I know of that has been through Medical School would agree with me on this, by "thinking light thoughts" the extra calories MIGHT not go to your waist -- it all depends upon how hard you "work at" those light thoughts (if you work EXTREMELY hard, for example, it just might make you break out into a sweat... in which case, it's as if you just came back from the gym)!
3) Re. growing more hair, here is my "secret" pointer, that you must promise to tell NO ONE (other than you):
Just talk to your hair -- tell it to GROW! ("or else!" - LOL) Hair follicles will listen to their owners *IF* you do as much of the following rituals as you possibly can:
a.) wear jeans, hippie T-shirts, and matching bandanas as often as possible
b.) occasionally say a few Hail Mary's (even if only to Hamburger Mary's), bow to Mecca (or is the record company called, "Decca?"), and then sit in the Lotus position and say several "Olmmmmm";s...
Honestly! Try it -- the results can be simply AMAZING!!!! (But don't forget to also use your IMAGINATION, and to THINK HAIRY THOUGHTS... Maybe even Larry can help remind you about some of this - LOL!)
Ken
I tried "thinking hairy thoughts" over lunch, and all I got was lots of gray soup-soaked beard hairs in my bowl.
I think you're right, though. Those hairs tomorrow will probably be 1/60 of an inch longer than they were today!
Bill
I love your philosophy of life, Ken. You do well to stay away from the new "puritanism". It seems like the "overweight police" are probably the same people who want us to have short hair.
As for hair growth, it's amazing how quickly the time has gone and how quickly it is growing. But, perhaps I am particularly lucky with my growth rate.
I have never been hippie in my style, but there are some nice ways of dressing with long hair. I think one of my Christmas presents will be a "medieval" shirt with baggy sleeves and tie-up collar. It's original.
Prayer and meditation for hair growth - or quantum physics. The mind boggles, but it is a fact that we usually get what we want, and sometimes in an unexpected way.
Above all, a sense of humour is everything when you're hairy. It brushes off the bullshit in life and gives us time to enjoy ourselves.
Thanks, Ken.

My blog
I have to disagree. Being overweight is bad for your health (diabetes, heart problems, etc.) Add to that all the suger in our foods, people who don't excerisize, etc.
There is a happy medium between obesity and being underweight as many people are expected to be. I agree that obesity is an epidemic in the western world and does cause health problems. The cost to health services and insurers is astronomic. Sugar and carbohydrates are the worst culprits. On the other hand, it is pitiful to see people who are too thin.
Anthony
My blog
I can sympathize with those who are too thin, back in college during the 70s and 80s my weight was about 110 pounds. Even though I would eat alot I could never gain weight. Now in 2014 my weight is now in the 160 pound neighborhood, I no longer have the problem of failing to gain weight.
Good work. Beautiful hair!!!
Thank you so much, Mr. Seminole, I greatly appreciate the compliment!
- Ken
Absolutely fabulous hair. Nice blonde color and wavy texture. When I have lost 3 to 4 pounds after a backpacking trip, I always gain it back during the winter no matter how much I starve myself. I have lost 10 pounds over three years, but up and a little more down like the stock market.
Don
Thanks! (it's getting whiter and whiter every day though - LOL)

LOL, yes, "like the stock market" sounds just about right! However, judging from your pics I've seen here, you look to be in TERRIFIC shape!! As for myself, however, I still need to lose at least 50 - 60 pounds... [sigh]
