Jason was in San Francisco today, and we met for lunch.
L-R: Larry (Bill's husband), Bill, (2 at adjacent table), Jason, and Ken.
It was great for Ken and me to finally meet Jason, after knowing him for over ten years here on MLHH!
Bill
After lunch, we took a walk up to Kite Hill.
L-R: Ken, Bill, and Jason.
How COOL!!! - you guys have so much fun ... not fair Lol! ~~~:0)~
How amazing, the three of you! All I know of San Francisco are the Dirty Harry movies of Clint Eastwood, and of course Sean Connery in "The Rock". There is another side. Perhaps my hair will be long enough in another couple of years...
Happy New Year to you all!
Anthony
My blog
Bill,
Nice shot of you 3 above The City! And the 4th with the camera?
peace,
jonalbear!
Hi jonalbear,
That was Larry with the camera (and thank goodness for Larry, as the rest of us forgot to bring our cameras)!
- Ken
I thought as much! Good for you Larry!
Ken, Bill, and Jason... you guys are our founding brothers and meeting up in San Fran brings pleasure as I see your pictures... What a great thing to do.
I suppose the occasion for anyone of the guys on this forum ending up near Syracuse, NY ever happening - but on the off chance it does happen - I'd like to welcome you go contact me. I'd be glad and honored to meet any of you guys. No great Kite Hill scenery, but we do have some awesome diners where we could grab a bite to eat.
Gary
Thanks, Fitz, I appreciate the invite to Syracuse -- and you just never know!
Also, a belated reply to your 24 month update post, I so enjoyed looking at your pics there!!
OK, time for me to get away from this computer now, or I'll turn into a computer chair potato (LOL)....
- Ken
Thanks Gary! Any time you're in the Boston area, be sure to look me up as well!
Great looking group of guys on a beautiful day!
Bruce
From the back.
L-R: Ken, Bill, and Jason.
What a great day we had yesterday, I was so glad I could take off from work and join you!!
Jason, it was so cool to finally get to meet you in-person! And Larry, thank you so much for taking this fine photo and all of the other nice pics you took yesterday -- and most importantly, for doing what I forgot to do: bring along a camera!
- Ken
Ken goofing off on his favorite tree on Kite Hill.
It looks like I put too much kukui nut oil in my hair yesterday morning; but otherwise, what a fun pic!!
Hi again Bill,
Attempting my own interpretation of cropping the original pic that Larry took, I also shrunk the image using your "Bill's Photo Resize Utility" from your website... I think I like your crop-job better (LOL)!
Amen, Bill, truly amazing when I think about it! As I said to Jason yesterday, prior to the Internet, I had never experienced anything like meeting someone without seeing them face-to-face first. MLHH is truly a special place -- and yesterday was an outstanding day, a meet-up to definitely remember!
My only "complaint" I can think of right now is that when you cropped this pic, you cut off some of my hair (LOL)!!
- Ken
PS - Cropping a pic of my hair is far better than cutting my actual hair, so I'll stop complaining now (LOL)!
Hi Bill, Ken, and Jason,
What a cool meetup, and it is always a pleasure to meet one's fellow MLHH members. Thank you for sharing these photos.
I have also had the pleasure of meeting Jason a number of times, and was honoured to attend his wedding as well. Hopefully, one of these days, I will have the chance to make that trip to the west coast, and get the opportunity to meet the rest of you.
Thanks for sharing,
David
Hi David,
I was telling the group about our various times meeting up and hopefully someday you'll be able to make that West Coast trip! The Bay Area is gorgeous and meeting up with longtime friends some of whom are longhairs is an added bonus.
I've very much enjoyed our several meetups over the years including, of course, my wedding. I was so glad you were able to make it!
Jason
Good Looking Group !!
Meetups are wonderful fun...I have had the opportunity to meet with several of our members.
Thanks for Sharing
Walter
I had such a great time and it was wonderful to meet Bill, Larry and Ken in person! It also afforded me the opportunity to see more of the city and the beautiful view from that hill.
It's very cool to finally see people in person that you've long considered online friends. It just shows that we have a real and supportive community here.
Amen, Jason, I couldn't have said it better!
As I had mentioned to you on our walk up to Kite Hill, prior to the Internet, I never was the type of guy to start "pen pal" friendships where there wasn't a face-to-face meeting first; so MLHH was a new experience for me, when I first started posting here in late 2003 and early '04.
Although I had first met Bill in-person in Y2K, I had gotten to know him better through MLHH. Victor was still running the board at the time, but I still remember some of the regulars back then, names like: "Treyn" (not sure if spelled correctly, guy from IL), "Wolfeyes", "Ardroth", "Haireligion", and of course YOU!! I can't believe you and Bill and myself are still around here; but it only proves the lasting value of MLHH -- and even more meaningful after a meet-up in person!
I wish you & your family a smooth and safe flight back to the East Coast -- and again, it was really great meeting up and spending time with you on Saturday!
Long Lox 4ever,
Ken
Hi Ken,
Yes, all those names ring bells with me as well. I wonder where they all are. It's nice when members who have been absent for a long time check back in occasionally.
Thanks for rearranging your schedule so that you could join us! It was such a fun time.
Jason
Sorry I missed you guys, I was head down in busyness and didn't check email til afterwards.
However, the apartment is at least in 15% better shape!
No worries, I got the news that Jason was in town very short notice myself -- I was at my cooking job over in the East Bay, staying overnight in Castro Valley, scheduled to have to work a double-shift that Sat.; so it took some scrambling to find a co-worker willing to cover for me so I could go back to SF and have the day off!
Sometimes I make it to these local meet-ups, and sometimes I don't... one of the drawbacks of working weekends!
- Ken
Same here, I only had 12 hour notice. Just as well, I guess, I don't ride public transit during flu season and driving in SF is a real challenge.
I will try to make meetups during spring, summer, or fall in the coming year.
Scott
Hi Bill,
Ha ha,no need to identify the characters in that group as I know who you all are ;) I have to say it was a surprise seeing this thread pop up as I had no idea this meet up was going to take place.Great too that Ken was able to get off from work that day being I know his weekends are busy.I have to conclude that the epicenter of mlhh meetups happens in the Bay Area even though I had a few of my own out east by me with the most recent being with our own Dave_AR :) It's awesome you finally met Jason as he is one that has eluded me to date.Cheers

We'll have to get our own East Coast meetup to take place, Mark! We're relatively close compared to the Bay Area.
That sounds like a great idea... There are a lot of us here in the Northeast, I think... We really should shoot for a get together...
Hello, I just discovered this site and i am new to having long hair (hahaha). Just wandering if anyone here is from Australia at all? Im glad to see that there is groups for this sorta thing! oh an ps. what is the best shampoo ever?
There are several guys on this site who are from Australia.
Thanks for the comments and interest, everyone! It's been enjoyable to share with the community the details and photos from our meetup. It was nice to spend several hours together. We found we had much to catch up on and covered many topics in our lengthy conversations. I found everyone in real life to be very similar to how they are online including Ken with his great sense of humor!
Hi Jason,
Wow, I have to say that the scenery of San Francisco is breathtaking, and I would love to see that city with my own eyes some day, and get the chance to meet more of my fellow hyperboard members as a special bonus. I am not a fan of flying, though, with airport delays and tiny plane seats, so my thoughts are that if I ever get there, it will be by car.
I also should add that your hair is looking really good these days, and has excellent thickness to the ends, and quite a bit of wave in it as well.
Thank you for sharing the extra photos.
David
When I was in Los Angeles a couple years ago I figured i'd take a quick drive up to visit San Francisco. Turns out San Franscisco is a six hour away drive so needless to day i didn't make it.
It never dawned on me that San Fran was that far away.
It usually takes me longer than 6, more like 8 hours; but that's probably because I prefer going South to LA along route 101 instead of I-5 -- and if I have MORE free-time, my favorite drive is to take the Coast Hwy., Route !; but that takes more like 10-12 hours... The scenery is so drop-dead gorgeous though, especially around Big Sur, you definitely don't want to rush it (plus the coast highway is quite narrow & windy)!
- Ken
California is huge by East Coast standards. If you were to slide California due east without moving it north or south any, the southern border of California would be in Georgia, almost at the Florida state line. The northern border of California would be in Connecticut. Los Angeles would be near Atlanta, and San Francisco would be near Washington, D.C.
California if a separate country would be among the world's ten largest economies. California's population exceeds that of Canada. California could do quite well as a separate country.
Bill
For the one ground level cross country trip that I have taken
I went on Amtrack, another option for cross country travel.
Once we got to Washington DC we rented a car to travel around and
visit various Civil War battlefields, which should link this
post to Long Hair In Albany which would keep this post somewhat on
topic. ;-)
Civil war battlefields:

http://www.nps.gov/abpp/battles/tvii.htm
Sadly as you travel around the country much of the rich
history from the civil war is gone forever.
Each year when we would have our national encampment, we'd
have tours of various historical sites. It's sad how many of them are gone forever.
Yes sad indeed that irreplaceable historical sites are
continually lost to the greed of developers.
Great pics, love the city view!!
Cheers
