Here is my one month progress pic. I think I have officially entered the "awkward phase"(not short, but not longish either) and I have found with just the right amount of product it can still be easily controlled. It covers about half my ears, touches my collar, and is starting to get in my eyes if I wear it "natural". My goal length is shoulder length all around. It has grown about an inch in the last month according to my calculations. So I think I should reach my goal by my 46th birthday on 12/6/15.
An excellent start! I think your hair will be beautiful at your goal length.

Hey RocTherapist14,
Awesome progress, dude!
You should have approximately six (6) inches of growth by your birthday.
I hope that your excitement about your new look and feel grows with your hair. As the you get into "awkward" stage you maybe tempted to cut your hair. Remember, you have us here to encourage you to preserver. Actually, just suspend your anxieties about looking "professional" and enjoy this stage of your long hair quest with a sense of humor and creativity. Just keep thinking about how your hair is going to look and feel. Celebrate each milestone you realize. Keep posting progress pics.
I hope that when you reach your goal of all around shoulder length hair you will decide to go for terminal length hair.
Your long haired bro,
Raymond
It's already a year since I was a 3-month beginner and said "no" to my wife's suggestion that I might get a haircut. I am now near the end of my awkward phase.
You have a good full head of hair to work with. The hair on the top of your head has a good start, so it will become less layered then mine as it grows. Resist all temptations to trim or mess about with it. Just let it grow, take reasonable care and don't worry about being perfect all the time.
I suggest you don't do any trimming before at least 18 months growth, and then you might consider growing it longer than that.
Good luck, and please keep the updates coming. And welcome to the board!
Anthony

Thanks so much for the supprt guys. It means a lot. I already have had the urge to cut it, as this has been longest it has every been in my life. I will stay strong and I am feeling a sense of accomplishment already by staying away from the stylist. I have included a pic of when I just woke up to show you guys that it is really starting the "awkward phase"...I think it's hard to see from the other pic.

Hey Todd,
Your hair looks cool. It looks natural.
As I said before, the "awkward" stage is a time to get creative. When you have to look like a professional therapist you can use some gel sparingly to hold the ends down. At other times try caps and bandanas. I'm looking forward to your first pic with a little ponytail. Keep thinking about how awesome your mane is going to look and feel when your hair is cascading around your face and over your shoulders. You're going to look beyond awesome; you're going to look sovereign and majestic and regal.
Keep growing!
Raymond
You're pretty lucky if that's your "just woke up" hair! Mine is all over the place in the morning. :)
Good for you! To be honest, I started my journey a month ago as well, except my overall goal is much longer than yours! Keep growing!
