The link is to a sad story in the newspaper today, about a teen who some of us, who when young suffered violence and other abuse about our hair, can empathize with. The story briefly discusses "conversion therapy", an attempt to change someone's identity. That practice is now recognized as harmful and futile. When attempted against minors has been outlawed in two states, and it is likely to be outlawed in others.

Teen harassed about identity commits suicide
"A 2010 survey found 41 percent of transgender people responding said they had tried to kill themselves."
I know several transgender individuals and it's tragic what they go through.
Though I've got an array of disputes concerning the nature of transgenderism, that I don't necessarily agree with, I don't believe whatsoever that someone should ever be harassed to the extent that they feel the need to take their own life, no matter the situation. Teenagers go through a whole lot, and bullying is honestly the last thing that any child deserves to have set on their plate.
As someone who knows a number of Transgender individuals I have to ask about this.
What do you have disputes with?
Plenty of different reasons, that I just don't honestly feel like getting into online, if you don't mind.
I was wondering the same exact thing.
How can someone have disputes regarding the way a person feels inside his/her mind and heart?
Some parents our there prefer to have a dead son/daughter than having a living homosexual/transgender/etc son or daughter.
Very sad.
I hope you are not referring to the parents in this particular case. Being none supportive is a far cry from preferring your own child dead.
BTW, this news article seems very off topic for this board.
Yes, I refer to the parents in this particular case.
If they had known how bad is not supporting your transexual child they wouldn't have lost their daughter.
Statistics say that...
- More than 50% of Transgender youth will have had at least one suicide attempt by their 20th birthday
- More than 30% of LGBTQ youth report at least one suicide attempt within the last year
- More than one in every 10 high school students reported having attempted suicide; nearly 1 in 6 students between the ages of 12-17 have seriously considered it.
So, if you as a parent don't educate yourself about what it means to have a transexual son or daughter and , instead, you push him/her into being something she/he doesn't feel inside , you're gonna end up pushing your child into commiting suicide.
Hi Bill,
All I can say is that this is very sad. I can't believe sometimes how cheap and unimportant human life has become. May this person Rest in Peace. Thanks for posting this Bill.

Thanks for sharing this, Bill. I just looked at the link and read the story while still here in Castro Valley. Conversion therapy can be so damaging and demoralizing, such a waste of time. Which states have outlawed that? Just curious...
See you Wednesday!
