Here's my latest update, to those still interested in watching the baldie from the avatar keeping at it towards long hair... it's getting closer.... not quite there yet, but closer it is ;)
Cheers fellas'!
CEM, your video ROCKED, so I made sure to send more viewers your way man!
Raul's 17 month update!
Your hair is looking good!
Darrin
Thanks Darrin!
It's still very much short compared to most guys here, but for me, having been on this road for so long, it finally is starting to feel as if there are some minor results showing, and that I am finally starting to distance myself from my short haired peers, length wise.
Definitely a long way to go still :)
Hi Raul - LOVED YOUR VIDEO !!! - you are so photogenic: ( much much prettier than me ... hehehe ) - LOL !!! ... your hair looks fantastic - I see real progress now that you are no longer trimming it & I think you will now see marked differences, from month to month now, from now on in - I see me in you - in the sense of your passion & verve for hair & life & the fun journey we are on - on this planet - only difference is - is that you are recording your journey in real time ... way to go bro. - KEEP ON INSPIRING !!! - & thanks very much for the kudos - big hugs cheers & be well CEM. ~~;0)~
Hey buddy!
Thanks for the kind words, I am truly inspired by your lovely long locks, and really felt I needed to give something back for that great compilation video you posted a few days ago! :)
It's definitely fun to document the whole thing live, and unless MPB stops me, I do plan on reaching at least your length if not longer...
Having those hair extensions on back last year really gave me a short glimpse into true longhairdom, and it's such an empowering feeling there is nothing more I wish to accomplish in the near future :) (next 3-6 years or so).
Thank YOU :)
Another great update, my friend. While it's true that maybe you're not officially out of the awkward stage until all your hair can reach a tie, the halftail works so well and looks so good on you, that you can practically call yourself graduated!
Do you plan any future trims of the back or are you going to leave it all from this point on?
Thanks Jason!
I am still debating that same question myself, as I would really like to even it all out when I reach the two year mark in September, but at the same time, would hate losing proabably around 50% of the length in that procedure.
What do you suggest?
You and I seem to be at about the same stage. I am very nearly out of awkward stage. Only my front bang and a few hairs on the sides are still too short to be held in my hair tie. Jason does well to mention the half ponytail, which looks nicer on a man than a high ponytail.
I have been thinking of this trimming question myself, but layered hair isn't that bad! I think I would go beyond 2 years before any trimming, and even then I would do it a very small amount at a time (not more than 1/2 inch a month). After several trims, the layered effect would decrease as the shorter hairs catch up with the hairs being trimmed. That could be an idea for you if you are not going to terminal length.
Keep us posted...
Anthony

My blog
Hey Anthony!
Definitely understand your point here, though me, I am an all in or all out type, you know? I would hate having to keep getting minor trims each month in order to make the transition more subtle.
Would rather just cut off the needed 2-3 inches from the back and get it all at one length right away, though there's a good chance my YouTube fans would linch me following that ! :D
Well, I'm a big fan of the all-one-length look so I would cut the back.
Man, Jason... just when I think I am all decided and have made the decision not to cut anymore until my hair is truly long, you come along with this and manage to make me re-think it all, hehe.
The one thing which definitely makes me worried if I were to consider cutting it all to lip length now, is that the hair on the back of my head has been chemically treated to be straighter, giving me less curly tips than what I used to have naturally. I am really wondering whether cutting it all short in order to let the front catch up, might end up backfiring, making me not like the new (old) texture that much.
Not easy, eh? hehe
Hi Raul,
Everything is coming along superbly there! You have such excellent hair to work with, and good thickness as well. I look forward to your future progress, and keep up the good work!
Keep it growing,
David
Thanks David!
Do I realy have such superb thickness? A bit subconscious about my hairline at times, but as I have discussed it with Jason a thousand times before, I think and hope it will stay where it is in the future, hehe.
One step at a time, my friend!
Hi Raul.
I must admit that you look great! Must be very popular with women!!! What length do you want to get?
A.D.
Hi A.D!
Thanks!
I don't know about popular with women, have been off the market for the past 2 years, though my girl really loves the hair! Thank god ;)
I am planning on going to mid back, or eventually classic length of my hair genes will allow it!
Got a long way to go!
I might not take as long as you think! I've been growing mine for 4 1/2 years now and look in the posting below where I'm at. I'm sure you'll love every minute of it!
A.D.

U are made to have long hair - beautiful, as always, Raul
As always, thank YOU, Gary! =)
Hi Raul,
I really enjoyed this video and you are looking awesome with the half-tail! You are making excellent progress for only 17 months man! It's amazing how different you look from your avatar! Please keep it growing and flowing and stay well my friend! You look great in this pic by the way!
Ted
Thanks for the continuous support and love, Ted! Hope your health is better these days, buddy! =)
Lookin' pretty damn good there, Raul, great progress indeed!
It's helpful for me to see your excitement in your videos, as I remember very well my own enthusiasm, both during my first time growing my hair out (during the '90s), and then also the re-growing process after my devastating Y2K haircut. Eventually you'll look back on this experience, realizing that so many other important events also happened in your life, all the while your hair was growing longer and looooonger. It's all part of the transformation: aiming for the goal of who we want to be (even if at first it seems only an exterior thing); eventually becoming who we've always felt we were on the inside, by seeing that person in the mirror "on the outside"; then lastly, gradually turning our focus onto other things (because we've satisfied our longhair identity feelings enough to concentrate on other goals, yet still appreciating our hair growth journey)...
Clear as mud? (LOL)

Long Lox 4ever,
Ken
Ken,
It is interesting how you mentioned long hair goals interfering with other life goals. I can relate, because sometimes I get fixated on my hair length. This causes me to neglect other goals or to live in the moment. Interesting observation on your behave.
Darrin
Thanks for the insight as an experienced longhair, Ken! I really appreciate it, since I know it's most probably very true as well :)
The past 1.5y have passed by so quickly, and so much has happened in my personal life, in my understanding and accepting myself, and in the way I want to live the rest of my life, to such an extent that I can be nothing but excited for the rest of the journey, long hair and life :)
Hi Raul,
I have to compliment you on where you are at right now on your journey to longhairdom.I really like this look your sporting with your hair down and loose :) It goes to show even not so long hair looks fantastic as you wear it well. This would make a nice avatar update my friend. Cheers
Mârk
Thank you, Mark! Looking foward to hear what you have to say on my latest move, a couple of days ago ;)
The avatar will remain a buzzcut in order to always remind myself where I come from, and where I DO NOT want to end up again!
